Yesterday marks one week until the Nike Women's Half Marathon in Washington!
I finally got in a long run. It was 12.73 kilometers and I ran from my house down to my parents for Easter dinner. I left while the boys were napping and had everything packed and ready for The Husband to take down to my parents house (boys' diaper bag and my clothes for after my run). I planned out my route, which was pretty basic and off I went!
It was an interesting run. With the first 0.5 km, someone honked at me, I looked over and they gave me the finger. Um, ok?! I was on the sidewalk, minding my own business, not sure where that come from.
I also noticed so many neat things along the way that I could have brought into my classroom but I didn't feel like carrying them. Maybe I'll hop on my bike tomorrow and go pick them up! I found an abandoned honeycomb, some really neat plants and some leftover pieces of trees that were still on the ground after the ice storm at Christmas. Once a teacher, always a teacher!
As I continued along the way, I found a loonie (that's a coin worth $1)! I turned around and scooped it up! I guess it pays to have your head down at some point! This is what I felt like when I found it!
After that, I ran into a man with very few teeth and a shopping cart. He asked where a street was and I told him it was in the other direction and then he continued to walk in the opposite direction. Hmmm, interesting.
I also had some random person honk and wave at me as if I knew them. I'm still trying to figure out who they are.
I eventually made it down to my parents house, only about 20 minutes after The Husband and the boys drove by! I showered quickly and joined in the family festivities.
Yes, I know, it isn't close to the 21.1 km that I need to be running next weekend, but it's as close as I'm getting until the day of.
We fly out Thursday night and at this point, I'm more nervous about leaving the boys for the length of time than I am about actually running. It's been a long time since I've spent this many days away from Joseph and I've only spent one night away from Andrew. I thought I would be so excited that it would trump the nervousness but I'm not right now.
Wish me luck!!
