Project 365 - Week #16

Ok, I'm a little late with these pictures. It was hard getting them up with the boys being around all weekend. Here are my pictures from April 11th to the 17th!

My Boston Marathon thoughts

Everyone is posting their thoughts about the Boston Marathon.

I love that I got to be at home to watch it and that my boys were willing to give a bit of time to watch the beginning. I taped it because we headed out to the park and was able to watch the remainder later on in the afternoon.

It was amazing! I honestly never thought I would enjoy watching marathon racing as much as I do! It's amazing to see how fast the men and women go! They fly compared to my ridiculously slow times. My mouth would drop open every time they announced the mile/kilometre splits. Crazy!

Boston is on my running bucket list. Wayyyy down deep in the bucket. At this point I've done one half marathon (soon to be two) and I have a hard enough time squeezing in my long runs for that!

My Boston Qualification time right now is 3 hours 35 minutes. Yikes! I don't think I can run that far that fast!

The great thing is that I think the running bug has hit me early enough in my life that I will one day make it there. It might not be until I'm 50 with grand kids, but I will get there.

I do hope to complete a marathon in the near future (within 5 years) but now just isn't the time. The boys are still young and full of energy and fun which is something I don't really want to miss. They still enjoy me being around and miss me when I'm gone (even if it's only a quick trip to the bathroom)!

I know there will be a time when they'll be old enough to not need me as much and that will be my time to focus on me more and really push myself towards my goals.

Right now, family is most important, but I still have that lovely blue and yellow jacket in the back of my mind!

Congratulations to those of you that ran and those of you that watched.

You really proved that Boston is strong!

T-minus 6 days until I Run DC!

Yesterday marks one week until the Nike Women's Half Marathon in Washington!

We Run DC

I finally got in a long run. It was 12.73 kilometers and I ran from my house down to my parents for Easter dinner. I left while the boys were napping and had everything packed and ready for The Husband to take down to my parents house (boys' diaper bag and my clothes for after my run). I planned out my route, which was pretty basic and off I went!

It was an interesting run. With the first 0.5 km, someone honked at me, I looked over and they gave me the finger. Um, ok?! I was on the sidewalk, minding my own business, not sure where that come from.

I also noticed so many neat things along the way that I could have brought into my classroom but I didn't feel like carrying them. Maybe I'll hop on my bike tomorrow and go pick them up! I found an abandoned honeycomb, some really neat plants and some leftover pieces of trees that were still on the ground after the ice storm at Christmas. Once a teacher, always a teacher!

As I continued along the way, I found a loonie (that's a coin worth $1)! I turned around and scooped it up! I guess it pays to have your head down at some point! This is what I felt like when I found it!

Why we may soon be jumping at budget air fares in Japan

After that, I ran into a man with very few teeth and a shopping cart. He asked where a street was and I told him it was in the other direction and then he continued to walk in the opposite direction. Hmmm, interesting.

I also had some random person honk and wave at me as if I knew them. I'm still trying to figure out who they are.

I eventually made it down to my parents house, only about 20 minutes after The Husband and the boys drove by! I showered quickly and joined in the family festivities.

Yes, I know, it isn't close to the 21.1 km that I need to be running next weekend, but it's as close as I'm getting until the day of.

We fly out Thursday night and at this point, I'm more nervous about leaving the boys for the length of time than I am about actually running. It's been a long time since I've spent this many days away from Joseph and I've only spent one night away from Andrew. I thought I would be so excited that it would trump the nervousness but I'm not right now.

Nike Women's 1/2 Marathon (2 weeks out!)

Only two weeks to go and what should be my taper weeks are actually going to be big push weeks for me. Being sick for two straight weeks and not being able to run at all has put me so far behind in my training (like ridiculously).

Instead, I'm going to get a long run (or two) in on the Easter weekend (fun!) and a few longer-ish runs in during the week this week.

I know it's not ideal, but I need to get my body close to running that distance or I'm going to be swept up by the course sweepers (my biggest fear). I'm hoping to get closer to 11 miles at some point but I'm thinking it'll be more around the 10 mile mark.

In this case a Tiffany necklace handed out by a firefighter in a tuxedo!

I did get out for a run on Saturday. Just 4k, but more to get the legs moving. They felt like cement. Then, when I was planning on doing a long run on Sunday, I must have slept funny and pinched something in my neck/back. I could barely turn my head to the left. Grocery shopping was a ton of fun in that condition.

Training for this has really made me rethink long distances and spring races. I think, for now, I might settle on a spring 5k, do a June 1/2 and then a fall 1/2. Winter running and I just don't get along.

Have you ever run a long distance race that you didn't feel ready for? This kind of brings me back to my only other 1/2 marathon back in October.

I'm hoping I can pull this off!

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Aveeno® Baby® Lotion and Wash/Shampoo

As you know, we've had our share of skin problems with Joseph. His eczema seems to be really bad during the summer (hot temperatures) and winter (extreme cold temperatures). We're constantly lathering him up with some sort of cream, whether his steroid cream or something else.

Now, the lovely skin problems have started with Andrew. We just got him some steroid cream, but he's so little that I'm going to try avoiding putting it on him as much as I can. I rarely follow the prescribed 2 weeks with Joseph and just do it until the bad patches clear up or he stops scratching. It's usually 3 or 4 days at most. That's the plan we'll follow with Andrew too.

In between outbreaks, we use Aveeno® Baby® Lotion. I've found that it keeps them well moisturized without leaving them slippery or sticky. I like too that there isn't a fragrance with it so they don't smell and the daycare can use it without worrying about allergies to scents.

Aveeno Baby Daily Lotion (227 ml )

We also use Aveeno®  Baby® Wash and Shampoo to wash the boys during bath time. I like that the wash and the shampoo are in the same bottle so there isn't a lot of fumbling around while trying to wash the boys. Again, with Joseph's crazy eczema, we try to use very gentle body wash so that there is less of a reaction.

Right now, there is an offer for $1.00 off at this website!

You can click on the product names above to find out more information or follow the Aveeno conversation on Twitter using #AveenoBabies.

Want to be knocked off your feet?

Try dealing with a sinus infection and the flu at the same time. It literally wiped me right out to the point that I spent the majority of Sunday, Monday and Tuesday on the couch.

It started over a week ago Thursday, with horrible sinus headaches. I just figured it had to do with the rain that was coming since the seasons are changing and I am one to feel the pressure changes in my cheek (I was hit with a softball in the cheek and the pressure really affects it) and forehead. I figured that's what it was. Things got worse Saturday evening, but I put it aside since my parents came for dinner.

Sunday, I was struggling to stand up and give the boys breakfast! Since it's my morning to wake up with them, I suffered through until The Husband came down. At that point, I settled into the couch. I battled a fever for a good chunk of the day, but still managed to vacuum, clean the bathrooms, grocery shop and make pizza dough for dinner.

Monday morning came and it was even worse than Sunday. I stayed home from work but quickly got a call from daycare letting us know that Joseph had a swollen spot on his neck and he needed to get picked up and taken to the doctor. Luckily, our doctor dose walk-ins on Mondays so we both got checked out and we both ended up with medication. Yay.
Since he couldn't go back to daycare on Tuesday and I was still ridiculously sick, The Husband stayed home with both boys and I remained couch ridden.

I went back to work Wednesday, but I probably could have stayed off for the week. I'm still not 100% better and I'm fighting off the sinus infection part of it. Hopefully it goes soon.

The toughest part is my lack of running. At this point, all of my #werundc is quickly turning into #wewalkdcbriskly.

I still haven't done a long run. The longest has been 7 miles.

Honestly, I'm frustrated.

Project 365 - Week #14

It was a hard week (as I'm sure you can tell by the fact that this post is on a Saturday and that there were no other posts this week). I managed to take some pictures on the camera but most were on my iPad as I was lying on the couch. Now that I'm feeling better, I'm hoping to get back on track.
