I'm on a diet...

Ok, it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change.

It doesn't just involve food however. I'm on a financial diet as well.

I've decided that things have just gotten out of control and that a lot of my 'little' purchases need to stop because they add up to a lot!

However, in the end it's completely helping my diet.

I've stopped eating out for lunch as well as eating out on the weekends. We'll still go out for dinner every once in awhile with the boys (or on a date night) because I think it's a nice treat for everyone, but the little trips to Subway or McDonalds for lunch or dinner have stopped. I've also stopped buying pop at lunch. Looking at it $1.25 doesn't seem like a lot, but it adds up.

That being said, my diet is a whole lot better. The food we're making at home is much healthier than what we'd eat if we ate out (yes, even Subway) and I'm hoping that it will help with the numbers on the scale and my hope to drop some more weight. I'd like to get down into the 140s at some point!

Tonight's recipe is Shrimp Stir-Fry! Click for the recipe!

Shrimp Stir Fry

Along with everything, I've decided to start shopping at a different grocery store and doing some meal planning based on flyers and sales. I am still going to buy my produce at a different grocery store. It's definitely going to be a pain in the butt to do that much work for food, but if it's going to help with saving some money than I'm going to do it!

What are you best money saving tips?

Any healthy recipes to share?

Nike Women's 1/2 Marathon Training - Week #7

Here's my broken record post about my training for the race.

Definitely didn't run as much as I wanted to.

Monday, I managed to get to the gym after school and do 4.6 miles on the treadmill. The weather was freezing again so the treadmill was great. I'm always amazed at how much I sweat when I'm on the treadmill compared to outside, but I think it's because I have so many layers to absorb everything! I felt good and rushed home to spend the evening with the boys.

Tuesday night was my last hockey game for the season. I put forth all my effort (even at 10:30 at night) and tried really hard to get a workout out of it. I did that but also got beat up in the process by old ladies who were cross checking me in the back. Since the game wasn't until 10:30, I didn't sleep until about 12:30 - 1am.

What I felt like after the game

Wednesday, I was exhausted. Ridiculously exhausted. I think hockey and being back to work wiped me out!

Thursday, I was sick. I had a headache all day long and just couldn't muster the energy to go. I went to bed early and called it a day!

Friday, I went to the gym at 8:45. I squeezed in a 4.35 mile run while watching these two ladies try to figure out all of the different machines. It was quite comical to watch (they were laughing too). That run felt great, but I knew that The Husband wanted to go for a run too, so while I would have kept going, I needed to get home.

I've determined that long runs are not going to happen on weekends. With the boys being up and around most of the day, it's impossible to go for too long. Therefore, my Monday nights are now dedicated to long runs unless the boys nap at the same time on the weekend. I don't really know any other way to do it right now. I can't wait until they're bigger so I can disappear for awhile and not feel horribly guilty.

Only 33 days left to go! I'm getting excited (but nervous!)!!

Project 365 - Week #12

This week was kind of crazy! We went and looked at some houses, I had a staff meeting and swimming lessons of course. I managed to take some pictures, but they definitely aren't great! I'm hoping that things will calm back down now that we are back into the routine and that I'll figure the camera out.

The Boys!

I realize I haven't shared a lot about the boys lately!

Joseph is crazy! I must say that I'm not a huge fan of three year olds. They are mini-teenagers. Crazy, moody, bipolar. It's insane. One minute he's happy, then he's giving me attitude and saying 'no', then he's bouncing off the walls! Potty training went amazingly well and we're down to one kid in diapers!

We're still dealing with his eczema, but it's definitely getting better now that the weather is getting warmer. We've determined that it's really reliant on the temperature. The colder it is, the worse the eczema on his face. We'll see what happens when it starts to get hot. That's when we first noticed the patches so hopefully we'll catch it before it gets really bad this time.

 photo March8_zps2c443945.jpg
He absolutely loves cooking and helping out in the kitchen. He's picking this up but he still needs a thousand reminders to not touch the hot pot or the knife.

Right now he's taking swimming lessons and can't wait for Thursday every week so that he can jump right in. He also did skating lessons for a about 8 weeks that didn't go as well as swimming, but he did learn a thing or two and was 'skating' by himself by the end of it.

 photo January4_zps650595fa.jpg
He's also Ninja Turtle's obsessed right now. He's only watched the show once or twice at our house, but it's definitely at treat at Grandmom and Grandad's. My nephew is really into it, so Joseph has grown to love it too. He tries to wear Ninja Turtles pyjamas to bed every night (we have three sets) and is actually disappointed when he doesn't get them.

 photo January30_zps1bcbe5be.jpg
I am amazed everyday by how much he knows and he's just figuring out more and more things on a daily basis. He's really curious and loves asking questions.

Andrew is almost 18 months already! I can't believe how fast time is flying. He's finally moving to the toddler room at the beginning of April. I've had some concerns about his speech being behind, especially because he did everything else early, but he seems he's starting to pick it up now and is starting to make sounds. Right now he's got about 6 or 7 'words' but they're all just sounds that he repeats (dada, mama, dodo, ba, mo, papa). He also loves showing people where his nose is by sticking his finger up it and can make many animals sounds (monkey, dog, cat, etc.)

 photo February21_zps301ac8be.jpg
He's still obsessed with Lightning McQueen. We have enough Cars shirts that he wears one almost every single day and laughs as soon as he sees it when he's getting dressed in the morning. His second birthday party is definitely going to be Cars themed.

 photo February16_zpsd7555137.jpg
He is a fantastic sleeper at night and is turning into a better napper, but still struggles. He eats like he's never seen food before and most daycare reports tell us that he's eaten two or three bowls of food at lunch. He loves being outside and we've recently discovered that he's left handed for most things. I know it can still switch, but we aren't too sure if it will or not and neither The Husband nor I are left handed. Luckily, we have some good friends and family that are left handed so they'll be able to help!

Like I said before, I can't believe how fast time is going. In a blink of an eye, Joseph will be heading off to Kindergarten! I can't wait to see what comes with these two little boys running around!

Nike Women's 1/2 Marathon Training -Week #6

A day late with this post, but oh well.

Last week started out in a promising fashion!

It was warm, sunny and gorgeous!

sunshine-nature

I managed to get in two very nice outdoor runs. Monday, I wore my jacket, headband and mittens, but the headband and mittens eventually came off. Tuesday, I didn't even wear the jacket! It was so nice!

The only bad part was that the snow was melting so there were gigantic puddles on the sidewalks and my feet were soaked by the first kilometer on both runs. I don't know about you, but I hate wet feet.

I also keep getting gut rot which I can't seem to figure out, but I'm working on it.

The rest of the week wasn't as great.

We had another snowstorm Wednesday and wasn't risking my life to get to the gym (although I did have to risk it to get the boys later in the day).

Thursday, the boys were home and we went to Disney on Ice.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday were just brutal because I could have run but didn't.

I'm so far behind in my training now that it's kind of silly. From this point on, I'm working really hard on keeping up with what's going on and getting in my long runs. I figure I need to adjust them a bit but I've done it once, I can do it again.

I'm still trying for the PR in Washington, and I'm hoping to be under 2:30:00.  That means that I need to shave off 9 minutes of time.

Wish me luck!
