Nike Women's 1/2 Marathon Training - Week #1

'I still haven't decided what I'm doing with the Chilly Half Marathon at the beginning of March. But I have started my training for the Nike Women's Half Marathon. I figure I'm just so far behind that I'll focus on having a great race in Washington then hurting myself in March.

Nike has provided an 'app' to use to train for the Half Marathon. They had three options and I decided that with the low amount of mileage I've had over the past couple months, that starting from square one and building my mileage up is the best choice.

This week was pretty good. I only missed on run because it was freezing! The running week goes from Monday to Sunday with Saturday's being my long run day.

Monday - 3 miles (5K)
I didn't get the entire 5k in because The Husband was home with the boys and it was close to feeding time so I figured I'd cut it a bit short and get home before a full revolt of little boys began. I did 4k in 27 minutes.

Tuesday - 4 miles (6.5Km)
The Husband offered to pick up the boys from daycare so I managed to get this run in (plus my shower afterwards) before they got home. Finished in 0:43:50.

Wednesday - Cross training
We were hit with a decent snowstorm during the day so my cross training was to spend an hour shoveling our driveway and walkway. Definitely felt it for the next few days.

Thursday - Rest
Successful! Other than swimming lessons with Andrew, which doesn't really count, I didn't do anything exercise-like. Probably could have foam rolled, but fell asleep on the couch at 9:45 and headed up to bed at 10. Much more productive I think.

Friday - 3 miles
Didn't get it done. Too cold and tired.

Saturday - 4 miles
This was supposed to be my long run, but honestly I'm tired of attempting to run in the freezing cold weather. Temperatures were way below zero, with the windchill way below that so I decided to enjoy the Olympics and warmth of the couch and moved my long run until Sunday.

Not my picture but a close representation of what our streets look like.

Sunday - Rest
See above, but not really. It snowed all day long despite the forecast saying only in the morning. Therefore, my long run wasn't done. However, I'm hoping that I can get it done sometime during the (crazy) week ahead.

I was really hoping to stick to this training plan but I guess it's just not in the cards with the weather and a really busy time at school.

It really is quite crappy when it's freezing outside and I have no gym membership. I can't wait for the temperatures to start warming up so I don't have to put on 1000 layers.

I've decided that I'm going to volunteer at a race this year. I'm thinking the Mississauga Marathon, since I'd really like to run it, but it's the week after Washington and don't think my legs would like it.

Have you ever volunteered at a race? What was your job?
