I realize this isn't new (and that this post is a little late but you can use it for next Christmas if you want!), but I absolutely love the idea of gifts in a jar. They are easy to transport, easy to put together and the jar can be used again afterwards by the person you are giving it to!
This year, I decided to give the boys' daycare teachers (5 of them), M&M Oatmeal Cookies and Joseph made his teachers cards (that I wrote a little message in as well).
All ready to be dropped off!
I'm sure it would have been just as nice to give them a gift card to Tim Horton's but I wanted to show them that I'd at least put a little thought and work into it considering all they do for the boys.
I started out by grabbing 5 1L mason jars from Michaels and I washed them out. Then I proceeded to put the following ingredients in them in the same order as written:
- 1 1/3 cup of flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 cup of cooking oats
- 3/4 cup M&M's (green and red)
- 1/2 brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 white sugar
I used a funnel to help get everything in nice and neatly (especially the flour) and then squished the lid on to seal it up.
I then cut out little rectangles of green cardstock and white and wrote the wet ingredients that need to be added:
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 cup of butter
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
I also put the instructions:
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.
Roll into 1 1/2 in balls
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes
I wrapped a little ribbon around the top and tied a wooden spoon to the jar so that they have something to mix it with. I think the teachers really appreciated it.
