My Christmas Wishlist

I always want a lot of different things, but I never really know what to ask for.

In my mind, I always have a list of things that I would like to have/purchase/get in the near future.

The main thing that I've asked for was an Otterbox or LifeProof Case for my iPad. Now that the boys are getting more into using it, I think a more sturdy case is necessary to help keep it safer. Plus, the trip from school to home isn't always the nicest either as I sometimes forget it's in my work bag.

I've also asked for another pair of moccasins. I have a pair at work, but I'd love a pair to wear as slippers around the house as my current pair of slippers are about 5 years old and have a giant hole in the side.

Don't they just look comfortable?

I've thought about a lot of running/triathlon stuff that I'd like to invest in since I'm making the decision to head more into triathlons, but I really don't want to get everything now since I haven't even done one and can't guarantee that I'll love it (although I get the feeling I will).

Garmin Forerunner 310XT
A new Garmin 310XT triathlon watch would be great. Or a better bike at least!

What I always love and ask for is gift cards. Target, Old Navy, mall gift cards. I could go on and on. I'm one person that absolutely loves getting gift cards from places. I'm pretty good with them and don't really blow them all in one place or on one day. I try to spread them out a bit and try to make them  go as far as they can.

Oh, how I love gift cards!

I do know that as good as the deals are on Boxing Day, I'm not going to be going shopping that day. It's too crazy for me now. My siblings and I used to have a tradition of going shopping on Boxing Day to get new CDs or video games and use our gift cards, but it's just too hectic for me now. Maybe I'll spend a bit of time at the gym instead, working off the Christmas breakfast and dinner from the day before.

What's on your Christmas wish list?

Are you a Boxing Day shopper?

A Christmas of Travels

This is the last year that we are spending the entire holidays traveling around to different places for dinner.
This year alone we're spending a few days at my in-laws (my sister-in-law is having knee surgery so she can't really travel too far), then back to our house, then to my parents' house, then to my aunt's house and finally to my husband's aunt house for a dinner.
I'm hoping that this isn't in store for us with all the driving we have to do!
I'm sure many people would be alright with this, especially when they aren't having to make any dinners or host any people, but call me crazy, I can't wait to start hosting Christmas dinner.
Next year, I'm hoping to host my in-laws at our house and the year after that I'm hoping to host my family and then alternate year after year from there.
I love hosting, decorating and cooking dinner. I rarely even let people bring a dish to help me out. I love the challenge of it as well as the accolades that come from pulling off a dinner of that magnitude!
I've already decided that part of my vacation will be pinning ideas for next year's d├ęcor, table settings, menu ideas, etc. Can you tell I'm a little bit pumped for this!?
cake circle placemats
I'd love to create a table for Christmas that looks like this!
This year, to help quell the sadness that comes from not making a dinner, I volunteered to cook the turkey for my staff holiday potluck lunch today. Last night, my kitchen smelled amazing! I'm hoping that it's completely cooked. I've also created a list of goodies and recipes that I want to try over the holiday. It includes butter tarts, chocolate cookie dough truffles, handmade bread and cinnamon rolls. There's also numerous recipes from the Skinnytaste cookbook that I want to try out.
I'm planning on taking pictures of all of the delicious foods from our potluck today and sharing it all with you tomorrow!
Keep your fingers crossed for me that the turkey cooked properly!

I'm questioning my sanity

This seems to be happening more and more.
At first I thought it was due to the two crazy little boys, but now I think it's just me and my personality.
I signed myself up to do things and then question them.

keep calm and triathlon
Case in point: We have a staff holiday lunch/dinner where each staff member signs up to bring a part of the holiday meal. I volunteered to bring the turkey because I live so close to the school. Now, I'm questioning if I can do it!
Here's another example:
On Wednesday, I voluntarily signed myself up for two triathlons.
The first is 'just' a try-a-triathlon, so the distances are relatively short compared to Ironman ones. I also signed up for one called IronGirl, which is a Sprint distance so there are a few more kilometers involved in this one than the other.

Luckily, I've gotten myself a 'coach'. Technically, she's a good friend from work, but she's done IronGirl before and she completed the Ironman 70.3 in Muskoka last year. I figure she can help with advice and some of the more technical aspects (i.e. the transitions). She's also going to help me with my swimming. I mean, I can swim, but in a triathlon setting I'm not so sure.
I'm sticking with my goal of doing the Ironman 70.3 in a few years, so I'm guessing this is one of the first steps!

How often do you question your sanity and your decisions?

Am I alone in this?

#GIFTSMADEEASY at Shoppers Drug Mart

Now that Hallowe'en is over, I'm so ready for Christmas.
Christmas is by far my favourite holiday. I love the music, the lights, the get-togethers, the colours, almost everything...except shopping.
I'm usually the type of person that puts off my Christmas shopping. I have plans to do it early and I make my lists nice and early (they're already done) and then other things get in the way.
This year, I've vowed to make a change. I'm hoping to get it all done before I go onto my Christmas vacation on the 19th. I want to be able to enjoy my vacation instead of having to run out to the stores to fight everyone else for gifts.
Having two little boys, I could spend hours in the big box stores looking at toys for them. I've found an easier way to get what I want for everyone without making tons of trips to different places.
 photo Logo_zps11719393.png

Shoppers Drug Mart is now one of my go-to Christmas shopping stops! Their holiday campaign, GIFTS MADE EASY has something for every single person on my list!
I have found a few things that will keep my boys happy this holiday.
The first is the Captain America Super Soldier Stealthfire Shield. My older son has just discovered superheroes and this would be the perfect beginning step to his superhero collection and superhero bedroom I am creating for him.
 photo CaptainAmerica_zpsecf72825.png
The second (also to add to his superheroes) is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Combat Gear. He's learned all about the Ninja Turtles from my nephew and to get a set for both of them would create a ton of fun for when they get together to play.
 photo TMNT_zps30c0a974.png

For my younger son, the B. Wheels cars are right up his alley. He loves rolling cars through the kitchen and any other hard surfaced area. These cars would still be small enough to fit in the garage we have, but he'll still be able to handle them with his developing fine motor skills.
 photo BWheels_Out_zpsf3ef02f9.png
There are also plenty of gifts for my hard to buy for husband (I know lots of ladies say this about their significant others, but it's definitely true of mine) like the Gillette ProGlide Holiday Pack (for any Modern Man) and for my best friend who loves to host dinner parties (The Entertainer) and is known for her famous Christmas Cookie exchange.
Shoppers Drug Mart has made holiday shopping easy this year! They have created an online gift finder where you can filter tons of gift ideas by price, category and the type of person you are buying for making it easy to have an idea in mind when you hit the store! From November 12 to December 25, there are in-store sales, promotions and exclusive holiday gift sets. The best part is that you can collect Shoppers Optimum Points on almost every purchase and most stores are open late!
There are two holiday gift guides set to launch in early November. Look for the "Give Beauty. beautyBOUTIQUE by Shoppers Drug Mart available now and the "Get Set for the Happiest Holidays!" on November 15th. There are three additional guides coming out at the end of November and December. To get the latest details, follow the hashtag #giftsmadeeasy on Twitter.

Don't miss these two opportunities to win and help with your holiday shopping! The first is Unwrap to Win Game! Each day, between December 1st to the 24th, visit the Shoppers Drug Mart website and play the Unwrap to Win game for a chance to win amazing prizes including fragrances, skin care sets to toys, electronics and gift cards! There are 15 prizes given each day, so 360 in total throughout the month!

The second contest is for those on Twitter! Join the #SDMholidays retweet to win contest for a chance to win 1 of 10, $100 Shoppers Drug Mart gift cards. The contest ends November 21 at 9:00am EST. Imagine how many gifts you could buy with one of those gift cards!

So make sure you visit the Shoppers Drug Mart website to browse through a ton of gift ideas and to enter the game.

Putting the focus back on me

I let myself go.

Not sure how it happened, but I let my weight get back up above the 160s after keeping it down for so long.

I guess I just got comfortable and spent more nights sitting on the couch with a tea and a book than out running.

Designer Scandinavian Style Moose Blanket in Grey and White Wool on Leather Sofa with Scandinavian Design book and Pantone Style Mug

I knew I had a half marathon coming up in October, so I let myself indulge a bit thinking that training would help to keep the weight off.

Well, I guess when you actually do train, the weight would stay off, but I didn't train.

I went a solid 4 weeks without running.

That's when the weight crept back up.

Now, I'm in a dietbet with a group of online friends and I'm hoping to lose 6 pounds and get back down to 154.

Music Theory for Electronic Musicians

I've also joined a gym, and while I have yet to go due to a cold and a few busy nights, I'm excited to see what it is going to bring.

My eating is back on track thanks to MyFitnessPal and I'm loving my FitBit.

I'm hoping to get everything back under control before the holidays because we all know what they bring!

Anyone else on a fitness/well-being journey?

My leave of absence

I've decided to try this blogging thing again.
I miss writing and sharing the interesting things that are happening as I continue to teach Kindergarten, try to lose weight and be an "accomplished" runner (as best I can at my ability level I guess) and to try to be an amazing mother.
I think that this is a great time to hop back into blogging because I can share a lot about what is going on with my family/work/home around the holidays.
However, I think my blog is going to take a bit of a turn. I'm not going to focus on my boys as much. As they are getting older and the web is getting bigger, I think that leaving them out of the blog is a better idea for our family. I will still share pictures from time to time, but the focus will be more on everything going on around us.
Some upcoming posts include:
- decorating for the holidays
- Christmas lists
- our family Advent calendar
- more weight loss and running
- my entrance into the triathlon world
- more cooking/baking and recipe sharing
- ideas from school that you can use to help teach your kids at home
- more crafting!
Like I said, I really missed writing and I hope that you will still come and visit, even though you won't see as many pictures of my adorable boys! I'm hoping that you will still get something out of my site from time to time.

Canadian Oil Sands

This post was brought to you by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers via sheblogs. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author and are not indicative of the opinions or positions of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.

When it was just the Husband and I, before the two little munchkins came along, we weren't much into using heat and air conditioning in our house. The Husband is perfectly fine regulating his own temperature but I struggled and would spend many nights with a fan pointed on me during the summer and extra layers of clothes during the winter to sleep in.

Once the boys came along, the sweating and freezing stopped. I could handle being cold (and wearing seven layers) but the boys needed some extra heat during the winter months to help keep them warm, especially since their birthday both fall during cooler months.

No need for hats inside when the heat is on. He just prefers looking good!

There's something to be said for coming home to a nice warm house after a cool day apple picking or a freezing cold commute.

We use petroleum every single day and it's essential to our quality of life. It's the gasoline in our trucks, cars, buses, planes, trains or boats that get us to where we are going each day. There are also many other products that are made from crude oil including heat, clothes, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, building materials and different types of plastics.

Showing off his new fall clothes!

The key to this petroleum and crude oil is Canada's Oil Sands.  Canada has the third largest oil reserve in the world with the majority of them being in the oil sands found in three areas within Alberta and Saskatchewan. There is also the potential of the creation of 800, 000 jobs in the next 25 years. The future of Canada's energy lies in the oil sands as a secure source to meet the ever growing demand.
