Yesterday, I participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure with a group of friends from my Momstown Mississauga group.
The weather wasn't the greatest (think cooler, drizzly, humid and slightly foggy), but the energy was still amazing! I can only imagine what it would be like if it was sunny and warm!
I did do a little fundraising, set myself a goal of $300 and ended up reaching and surpassing my goal by $10. We also surpassed our team goal and we raised $770 all going toward breast cancer research.
I ran in the name of my mother-in-law, Janet, as well as a fellow January 2011 mommy friend who was diagnosed with uterine cancer after having complications after delivering her third baby (I know it focuses on breast cancer, but I thought any woman's cancer is important and finding a cure for one, might help others).
I ran most of the way, except a little in the last kilometer because my knee started to hurt going up the last hill. Once I reached the top, I started running again and ran right through the finish line!
I decided to leave my watch and iPod at home for this run. I felt like I owed it to those that have fought and lost their battle with breast cancer to focus solely on getting to the finish line as opposed to trying to set a new goal time or listen to music (nothing against those that did. It was my personal decision).
Despite the fact that it's taken me off my half marathon training again, I think this run was definitely worth it. I will definitely be participating next year and who knows maybe I can raise the $500 on my own!
