Ribfest #1

On Friday, we took the boys along with Auntie Emily and Uncle Ryan to a Ribfest in the next town. It's only the second year that this Ribfest has been around so it's not crazy big yet but enough that it's very enjoyable and easy to maneuver in (especially with the double stroller).
They expanded the kids section a bit so there were lots of bouncy castles, a clown, watermelon eating contest and a Home Depot Kids' Building tent, where Joseph and The Husband made a little toolbox.
 photo PicMonkeyCollage_zps0999a0d6.jpg
Then it was time for ribs, pulled pork, beans and cornbread!!
This was the stand we chose to go to because it had the shortest line.
 photo DSC_1136_zpsaa3edb50.jpg
In reality, the line moved fairly slowly but they had two lines so it looked short compared to the rest. Oh well. We got food, it tasted good and we ate it all. Can't complain too much!
Lastly, we had two important stops to make. Auntie Emily had to get a sno-cone and I had to get my mini-donuts which are a must whenever I see them. I honestly don't think I've ever passed up an opportunity to eat Tiny Tom's icing sugar donuts.

This is the start of festival/ribfest season for us! There's another ribfest coming up in July and there's a HUGE one during the Labour Day weekend.

This is definitely one of my favourite summer activities!

Do you go to lots of local festivals? Which ones are your favourite?

Wristy Buddy

Wristy Buddy giveaway

Wristy Buddy developed from a simple question my husband asked one night while dressing our infant son for bed. Before we could get his arm through the sleeve of his pajamas, he had his fist and pajamas in his mouth. This was nothing new. However, my husband simply asked, "Why does he do that?" He then stated, "They should make something for that." From that question and that statement, Wristy Buddy was born.

Our infant son hadn't developed the motor skills to hold traditional teething objects at that time and would reach for the nearest thing that would provide him relief. This relief came in the form of his clothing and fist. His face and clothing always stayed wet. Wristy Buddy helped minimize the drool and made our baby a much happier teether! Wristy Buddy proved to be so successful with our son that we wanted to make it available to other moms struggling to help their teething infants find relief.

Teething Wristband - Retail Price: $14.99

Wristy Buddy is designed for babies who haven't developed the motor skills to hold traditional teething objects. Babies that can't grasp toys can manipulate Wristy Buddy. It is made of absorbent and non-toxic materials to help keep little faces and clothing dry. Its various textures and colors engage and stimulate. It is easily accessible to your teething baby and is more sanitary than traditional teething objects.
BPA-Free, Lead-Free, Phthalate-Free and Non-Toxic certified by a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission approved laboratory
Suitable for babies 3+ months
Machine Washable - cold and gentle cycle, tumble dry on low

New eBook!

Joseph loves books. He loves looking at the pictures and turning the pages, especially if it has to do with construction vehicles or cars.
There are times that it just isn't feasible to bring books with us everywhere we go (especially the big gigantic ones he loves most).
I received an email from Julia Dweck, who is a children's author, sharing with my her newest release which is available for download at Amazon. I downloaded it onto my Android phone and one night, after dinner, Joseph and I sat and read it together.
Her newest book, Where are the Dinos?, is completely up Joseph's alley.
It's a cute little story, explaining that the dinosaurs are extinct and why they can't be see around the world, only in museums.
The rhyming made it an easy read that kept Joseph's attention and the pictures were bright, colourful and extremely well done. Joseph pointed out all of the items in the pictures and couldn't wait to turn to the next page to see what was coming up.

I personally loved this book. It reminded me of some of my students who can easily pick apart a topic with question after question without giving me a chance to answer! In all honesty, those kids are my favourite because they are so curious and inquisitive!

If you're looking for a wonderful story to share with your kids either one night before bed or even while waiting in the doctor's office, I highly recommend this book.

You can pick it up here:

You can also find out more about Julia Dweck at her website

I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this book.

Colour Me Rad 5K

Yesterday, I ran the Colour Me Rad 5K in Toronto.
 photo 85873cab-7c6b-4714-b271-6c28d51229af_zps4801c374.jpg
It was a ton of fun, even though the temperature and humidity were absolutely ridiculous!!
I went with my lovely sister-in-law Adrienne and a few of her friends, Ashely, Jess and Steph. I honestly was worried about keeping up with these ladies, even though I've been running since January and 'training'. They're all in really good shape and play soccer so they're used to running.
We got there, parked, took a before picture:
 photo DSC_1155_zps2cbfeabe.jpg
And walked to the starting/finishing area. They had pre-race Zumba as a warm up and lots of things thrown out into the crowd. We saw tons of ridiculous outfits (including one guy in white boxers...completely gross) and I stated that it was completely different from the other races I've done.
Then the run/walk started. They told everyone to run on the left and walk on the right. Apparently, that's useless information as a lot of people would just stop and walk wherever they wanted.
The heat was nuts, the water station was actually a stop (we ran right by) and the 'track' conditions went from concrete to asphalt to trail. It was slightly insane and my legs definitely felt the differences.
We finished (time wasn't really kept and my watch turned off instead of started) and decided to head home, but not before taking a post race 'coloured' picture and a quick stop at Subway for lunch.
 photo DSC_1156_zpsc0e91fd8.jpg

Overall, it was fun. I looked as though I didn't get any colour on me, but I'd definitely do it again!
 photo DSC_1158_zps32df73c1.jpg
Oh and these snazzy glasses came with it, but I might need to fight Joseph to get them back.

Have you done any of these "fun runs?" Which ones?

The beginning of the end

Well, I succeeded in my goal to breastfeed Andrew for 6 months.
In fact, I surpassed it and lasted until 8.5 months.
Unfortunately, we are beginning the process of weaning Andrew onto formula. I don't think my supply is keeping up with him anymore and he spends much of the day wandering around whining and chasing me. If he's offered food, he'll take it in a second and without hesitation.
Luckily, he's adjusting to the formula very well. He hasn't had any issues taking the bottle from either The Husband or myself (since he wouldn't take any for quite a long time).
 photo DSC_1122_zps986e965a.jpg
Yes, he can feed himself already!
I keep going back and forth with my feelings.
There are times when I'm relieved. I can leave the boys with The Husband more often and hopefully we can get out without the boys more often (if we can find babysitters). It is also beneficial to my running. I'm able to go whenever as opposed to making sure it's either just after he's eaten or not too close to the next feeding time.
On the other hand, I'm sad about it. It's something that just he and I had (sappy, I know, but other BFing mommies understand).
So that's it.
He'll probably be closer to 9 months when we finally finish.
I'm really proud of myself for sticking with it.
I have a fun post coming up on Monday about my experience with my Colour Me Rad 5K on Sunday and an e-book review on Tuesday. I'm also trying to get back into my crafting and have a Thank You gift for Joseph's 'sports class' teacher to share!
Anyway, I hope you all have a great weekend!

Summer Reading List

One of my favourite things to do in the summer is sit outside, in the sunshine with a big glass of lemonade or water and read.
I think I'm the opposite of most people and enjoy heavier reads in the summer. I find my mind is less occupied and therefore I have more time to devote to thicker story lines. Although, there is something to be said for a quick 'beach' read.
Here's what I'm planning on reading this summer:
I'm already half way through Inferno and it's great thus far. I've loved all of Dan Brown's books and this one is no exception.
Inferno (fr)
I've heard some really good things about this book.
I borrowed this book about a year ago from a friend and I've gotten through the first couple pages and then I put it down without picking it up again. I'm hoping that this summer I'll get a chance to read it.
What are you reading this summer?? Any good recommendations to add to my list??

Father's Day 2013!

The Husband's #1 wish on Father's Day is to spend time with his boys.
I think we succeeded.
He got to sleep in a bit, since it's his regular sleep in day. While he was still asleep I started 'prepping' Joseph to say Happy Father's Day when he came downstairs. We heard The Husband moving around upstairs so I rehearsed one more time with Joseph.
The Husband walks into the room, Joseph yells,
"Happy Tuesday!!"
Uh, not quite right, but it works I guess.
The 'boys' got him fishing rods, so that he can teach them how to fish!
Later in the afternoon, we headed over to my parent's house for our annual Father's Day BBQ. The weather was fantastic, the pool was open and warm and we all had a great time. We almost had to drag Joseph out of the pool because he didn't want to get out! I think the swimming lessons we did in the winter paid off! Luckily, we avoided the whole "poop in the pool situation" unlike our trip to the waterpark. It was also Andrew's first time in the swimming pool. He splashed the entire time he was in there!
Here are some more pictures from the BBQ!

My munchkin has a bright red nose

No, I didn't dress him up like Rudolph or a clown.
I was that person a few days ago.
The person whose 2.5 year old runs through the splash pad in a make shift swim outfit. The person whose 8 month old is wearing jeans and no hat in 25 degree Celcius weather. The person whose little boy's noes is bright red because he was out in the sun.
 photo DSC_1056_zps522db379.jpg
First ice cream cone!
I was completely unprepared for our impromptu trip to the park.
Here's how it happened:
I took the boys on a quick trip to Costco to buy some toilet paper and sports bras. We got home at 1:30 which is typically part way through Joseph's nap, but he wasn't looking tired. So I decided that we should go for a drive hoping that both boys would pass out on the way to the park and I'd turn around and drive home.
No such luck.
They were both awake when we made it to the park.
I keep sunscreen in the car just in case so I lathered up the two kids and headed to the park in the bright sunshine.
 photo DSC_1044_zpsd07af394.jpg
He loves the swing!
We played at the playground for a bit and then Joseph noticed the splash pad.
No bathing suit, swim diaper, towel, nothing.
I took his shirt off, took off his socks and shoes and rolled up his pants.
 photo DSC_1053_zpsfb92812e.jpg
Pasty little boy!
Of course he didn't get in the water. He spent more time running around it and pushing the buttons, but still. He could have once I stripped him down.
So, I have a solution.
I'm keeping an 'Emergency Summer Basket' in the car.
 photo DSC_1069_zpsbc27177d.jpg

In it, I've put:
-swimsuits for both boys
- one towel
- swim diapers
- regular diapers
- wipes
- sunscreen
- extra set of clothes for both boys (warm and cold)
- extra hats for both boys
 photo DSC_1064_zpsc01d0c93.jpg

I figure this way I'll have every situation covered, right? I think?

How do you handle impromptu trips to the park or splash pad?
Am I missing anything?

Cuteness at Costco

We were out late at baseball last night and my brain isn't working yet, so I figured I'd just share my new favourite picture of my boys at Costco yesterday.

It was totally unprovoked and it was nice to catch a moment where Joseph was being nice to Andrew!

My best run ever!

Yesterday, I managed to get out for a run after dinner.
It was perfect. The sun was going in and out behind the clouds so it would be warm sometimes, cooler at other times and the sun wasn't constantly in my face.
It must have been all these conditions that led me to what I'm calling my best run yet.
 photo df5ab117-5224-45d4-a007-142c5512d749_zps8c1faba4.jpg
Not only did I run the fastest 5K I've ever run (31:53), I also ran the farthest I've ever run (7.01 km).
It was fantastic!
I'm now feeling a whole lot better about my 10K in July. It's a little over a month away and I have about 3 km to add on to get to my 10K, but I'm a lot closer than I was!
In case any of you are bored and want some more reading, I started a second blog about my running, called:
I'll still post some running/weight loss stuff here, but I'd prefer to keep this one as my 'mommy' blog.
Please check it out!
