Summer TV

I admit it.
I like my TV.
There are so many fantastic shows on at the same time however, that my PVR works overtime in the evenings.
I love summer TV even more. I find they're more of the non-thinking, less dramatic shows.
Here's what currently on my line-up!
I fell in love with this show at the end of last season and I think my love of cooking shows helps that (even though I'm a horrible cook). It's so neat to see home cooks make such delicious-looking food.
This next one is definitely a guilty pleasure!
The people in this competition are crazy! Not to mention ridiculously fit (which isn't hard on the eyes). I love seeing the obstacles that they need to get through, especially the vertical wall and the tiny little finger holds in the last set of obstacles.
There may (or may not) have been times that I peed my pants laughing hysterically at this show. I can only watch the first three-quarters though. It gets too serious at the very end. I love the optimistic people who get crushed by the things that pop out and smack them in the head. One reason I'd never be on the show; I'd be the one getting smacked in the head.
And my all-time summer favourite....
There are so many interesting (and weird) things that people do on this show that you have to come back weekly to see what happens!! Canada had a version but the ratings were poor so they aren't coming back for another season. Therefore, American talent will have to do.
I'm sure some of you will say, what about Big Brother?? I'm not a big brother fan. Too many nights to keep track of. I think I watched one season before it went out of control. Oh and The Bachelorette? Not a fan. Too much drama for me.
What shows are on your 'must-watch' list this summer? Any recommendations??

7 months...again!

I shared Andrew's 7 month achievements (and not-so-achievements) last week even though he'll be 8 months on Saturday.
I finally got around to taking his 7 months pictures and I had to share them because they are just too cute!

Spinning and weight loss update

Last night, I got to go to a spin class with my Mom's group!
I love spinning. As in absolutely adore it. It, running, softball and hockey are all tied at the top of my workout list (everything else is a distant second).

I was even praised by the teacher for hanging in really well and going fast.
I've done random classes here and there but they have never been consistent. I bought a Groupon for 5 classes at the same place I went to last night and I can't wait to use them.
I'd love to eventually teach them, I just don't know how to get into it. Anyone know?

I also want to share with you my weight loss update.

To date, I've lost 33 lbs. and I'm at 159 lbs.

I'm in the midst of another weight loss challenge and hoping that it will push me into the lower 150's.

Here are the pictures that I've been taking along the way of my progress.

I notice a lot of changes in my hips and my face. But when I look at the side view, I need to do a little more work on my stomach.

In general, I'm really pleased with my results and they are only pushing me to keep going. I need to get a new bathing suit and I'm worried about that, but something I heard one day on The Chew made me think. Clinton said "Most people aren't looking at how you look in a bathing suit. They're worrying more about how they look". I guess that means most people are in the same boat and may be just as self-conscious about their bodies as I am. So I'm going to embrace that!

I have one more picture to show.

I don't know how long it's been since this was there, but I have a space between my thighs!!!

Yes, it's tiny, but it's there!
What have your weight loss achievements been lately?

Another great weekend!

We had another fantastic weekend!
Friday night started with an awesome high!
I ran a total of 6.13 km (farthest yet) and my fastest 5K (31:55) thus far! The funny part is was that my goal for the 5K race coming up next weekend was going to bed a time under 32 minutes. Well, I've achieved that. I'm going to try to get under 31:30 now.
Saturday, we headed out to visit The Husband's family.
We had some family pictures done and then headed back to the house. After a yummy lunch, Joseph went to the zoo with Papa, my niece went to a birthday party and so my Mother-in-law and I took care of the two babies.
Later in the evening, my niece's daycare was doing a fundraiser for Relay for Life. They opened up the daycare from 5-9pm on Saturday night for a pyjama party. For a donation, they took care of the kids, fed them dinner, watched a movie and pretty much let them run free in the daycare. Grandma and Papa took care of the babies and my sister-in law and her husband and The Husband and I went out for a kid-free dinner to Boston Pizza and to watch a movie! We rented Flight and I loved it. It kept my attention enough that I didn't fall asleep!
Less is (a)more: Affordable gifts for your Valentine
Sunday, it was my niece's 4th birthday party at the zoo so we spent the afternoon there and drove home afterwards.
I would have loved for the weather to be a little warmer, but honestly it wasn't horrible. Sunny, sunny sunny!
What did you get up to this weekend!?

Our Summer Bucket List

I don't know why but I feel like we have to jam as much stuff into the summer as possible.
I don't know if it's because of the fact that at the end of the summer I go back to work and the boys go to daycare (*tear*) but then I remember that I have every summer off with the boys. I'm a teacher...duh, Victoria!
Anyway, I've created another bucket list. I created one for my running goals and now I've created one for Summer 2013!!

Visit 'new' splash pads
I'm think splash pad/picnic lunch/car ride nap/$1 drink from McDonalds (win for Mommy).
Go to a Blue Jays game
I just have to figure out who to sucker into is willing to come along and hang out with us on that day!
The CNE & Air Show
Rides, airplanes, SuperDogs, craft sale, mini donuts, 'nuff said!

The Zoo
Penguins, pandas and a gigantic splash pad (reference splash pad above)

Annual event. Great food, great friends, sunburns and sand in places sand shouldn't be.

Centerville (an amusement park for kiddies)
Boat ride to island (stress!!), rides, guaranteed kid exhaustor (see splash pad above again)

What's on your bucket list for the summer??

7 months!

This post is 21 days late! Whoops!
Andrew turned 7 months on May 1.
 photo DSC_0701_zps01b0b4ee.jpg
It's been a busy month for him.
Thus far, he's gotten teeth, figured out how to crawl forward, moved to a crib and expanded his solids repertoire.

He's done very well getting his teeth. He hasn't whined or cried too much about it, but he definitely is a screecher (just like Joseph was). His teeth came in pretty much one right after the other. The bottom two came in quickly, then the top left and the top right is just finishing making it's grand entrance.
Now that he crawls forward, we have to look out for everything! Joseph rarely put stuff in his mouth, whereas Andrew likes to chew things (probably because of teething). He loves anything that Joseph is playing with and has recently found the door to the backyard so he sits and stares out the door longingly.
 photo DSC_0740_zps1844dfe7.jpg
Notice all the letters up high and the farm down low!
He still isn't the biggest fan of grass. He'll sit on it but he won't really move from the spot you put him (unless he tips over). He's gotten better with sand though and usually comes home with sand in his shoes and all over him.
With his solids, we've done more a baby-led weaning approach this time. We tried purees like I did with Joseph, but he prefers to have the actual food. He loves toast, french fries, tilapia, mashed potatoes, yogurt and baby pasta. We do still mix in purees here and there just to introduce him to different foods (and to get rid of what I have in my freezer).
 photo DSC_0695_zpsb4ec5096.jpg
We finally moved him to his crib which has been great for all of us. We're sleeping more, he's sleeping more and the cable bill is lower since I'm not watching TV while trying to feed him at night. Instead, I get to drag myself down the hall to his room. He's still up twice a night usually, although we have had some great nights where he's gone 5 or 6 hour stretches. The best part is how easily he goes back down though. As soon as he's done eating, he gets a short snuggle with me and then back into bed and he's usually right back to sleep. We've had to let him cry for a bit here and there, but nothing horrible or too long.
 photo DSC_0686_zps3ba028a5.jpg
He's already trying to pull himself up and spends a lot of time balanced on his knees.
 photo DSC_0783_zps7c457611.jpg
Blurry picture, but you get the idea!

I still haven't taken his 7 month picture yet but in about 9 days I have to take his 8 month one so I'd better get on it!

My Running Bucket List

Last week, I outlined my summer runs. These are all the runs that I've signed up for (or plan to sign up for) until the end of the year.
I've also been thinking of my bucket list for running. There are so many interesting runs out there that I'd love to do.
First, I'd like to participate in the Mississauga Marathon each year. Since there are so many different races I can't specify which one because it will most likely change. This year I did the 5K, next year I might do the 10, then the half and the marathon. I'm also hoping to involve my school in the relay at some point and eventually when the boys get bigger do the 2K with them.

I've also looked into the Run Disney events. They all look absolutely amazing! I'd love to do each of those as well. Specifically, I'd love to do the Disney Princess Half Marathon Run and most of the events of the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend. I'd love to do these when the boys get a bit bigger so that I can take them along and have a weekend at Disney world.
I'd also love to do one of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series races. I've read and seen a lot about them and they look like they'd be a blast.

A race in Arizona is definitely high up on my list. I lived there for a year when I was younger and typically go back once a year. I love it there and would love to run. Although, since a good chunk of my training takes place in the snow, I'd prefer to run something in the winter when it's not as hot down there.

Map of the United States with Arizona highlighted
This one is crazy (especially when you take into account the Great White North) to do at least one race in each province and territory in Canada. That would be 12 more races (since I already completed one in Ontario).

A clickable map of Canada exhibiting its ten provinces and three territories, and their capitals.
Lastly, the granddaddy of them all, I'd love to run the Boston Marathon.

At this point, you're probably thinking I'm crazy! I guarantee you I'm not. I'm hoping to run until I can't run any longer either due to old age or never ending pain. I'm hoping I get a large number of healthy, running years and that I can complete most if not all of my list.
I guess I should make a bucket list for the other aspects of my life!
Do you have a bucket list for a specific aspect of your life or just life in general?

Joseph's first 'real' birthday party!

I put real in quotations because it was my nephew's birthday party, however, there were other kids so it wasn't just a family birthday party.
My nephew turned 5 on Tuesday and my sister decided to throw him at Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle birthday party at one of the local play places.
Joseph was so excited to go! He absolutely adores his cousins and gets really excited when we mention them.
I got to decorate my very first 'order' cake, but I wouldn't accept payment from her.
Here is the final product:

I got some compliments from the other parents at the party. I'm hoping that soon others will ask for cakes and I'll be able to do some on the side.
My sister also had a lot of trouble finding Ninja Turtle decorations so she decided to make her own. I think they turned out really cute!
 photo DSC_0802_zps915293dd.jpg
Joseph would not stop playing. He was all sweaty when we left and loved his loot bag. His got bubbles in his loot bag and he wanted to go out and play with them just as I was getting ready to go for a run. I promised him that when I got home we'd play with them and I took him outside. He finally learned how to use them properly and wasn't try to eat them.
This weekend we get to go to his other cousin's birthday party!!

High Park visit

Since it's been so nice out (and I'm tired of walking around the neighbourhood) I've decided to take the boys on an 'adventure' once a week (until they start daycare).
This week's adventure took us to High Park.
It's famous for it's Cherry Blossoms that bloom in the Spring and apparently finding parking during that time on the weekend is very hard.
They also have a very neat looking park. It's a castle called James Bell Park. You rarely find parks like this anymore and Joseph loved it as did a lot of the kids that were there. Makes me wonder if the plastic, all the same parks are worth it! There's something to be said for adventure parks.
 photo DSC_0756_zps2f91d257.jpg
Anyway, Joseph wandered through the maze of a playground for a good 30 minutes and he'd dip in and out of windows, find new paths and check out different slides. He even braved the gigantic red one that I pictured him sitting in and crying and me trying to find a way to get him out.

 photo DSC_0760_zpsa3611ddc.jpg
After the playground, we headed to the zoo. It's not a huge zoo by any means, but it does have a few animals and the kids can get fairly close. Close enough that I had to remind Joseph not to put his fingers in the fence.
 photo DSC_0762_zps1622934f.jpg
The only downfall was the enormous hill we went down to get to the playground and zoo. I knew we'd have to get up eventually and we did. I thought of it as exercise and pushed the double stroller up to the top!
 photo DSC_0765_zps5e13b262.jpg
Looked bigger from the bottom!
Once I got my breathe back, we went and looked at some of the gardens. There were these ladies there using bubble wands to blow these gigantic bubbles that all the kids were chasing. I'm going to be making one of these wands in the near future since it took almost everything to get Joseph to leave them. We even went back after lunch.
 photo DSC_0771_zps61c4de55.jpg
We headed to the little restaurant to get lunch. After paying a ridiculous price and Joseph not eating a lot, we'll be picnicking the next few times we go on our adventures. He loved the number. He got upset when the waitress brought our food and took it away. I guess he thought it was coming home with us!
 photo DSC_0768_zps6f2e6be0.jpg

After lunch we went back to see the bubble ladies, check out a couple more gardens and Andrew started to get tired. We headed to the car for a quick diaper change and load up and headed home.
 photo DSC_0774_zps70b200cf.jpg

I had a nice quiet ride since both boys fell asleep and I took the 'long' way home so they'd sleep longer.

Next week's adventure is still up in air since it looks as though it is supposed to rain. There is an indoor reptile park we might visit (eww, I get shivers just thinking about them).
