Daycare vs. Nanny vs. Home Daycare Setting

I'm having so much trouble with this decision.
I still have a bunch of months before I head back to work in September, but we've had to start thinking about what to do with the boys now because spots fill up.
We're looking at all of our options and there are so many pros and cons to each that it's making life really difficult.
I love J's old daycare. He was only there for 6 months, but he learned a lot and the teachers were fantastic. The administration was fantastic as well and I know my boys would do well there, but the biggest drawback is definitely the cost. It is SO expensive and would definitely drain our bank accounts quickly.
Another option is to look for a home daycare. I know these are usually cheaper but finding one in the area we might be moving to is proving to be difficult. There are a ton by my school, but I could end up being moved or choosing to move and would have to move the boys again.

The last option is a nanny. Personally, I like this option the best. I like the idea of not having to wake my boys up in the morning if they are still sleeping in order to drag them off to daycare. I like thinking that J can hang out in his pjs if he wants to all day just like he does with me. The one off-putting thing is that there will be a strange person at the house. I guess they eventually become like part of the family (we'd have a live-out nanny), but still.
The other part that is making this choice difficult is the fact that I have summers off. The daycare that J went to would still have me pay for daycare even though I'd have the boys home with me. The home daycare might be a little more flexible. In terms of a nanny, I'm not sure how this would work.
Do you have any insight into this? The Husband and I are flip-flopping around with each option (ok, it's really me flip-flopping). There's also the possibility that a third little munchkin might come along and I'd be able to stay home for another year. Either way, I'm heading back to work in September until June at least and as much as I'd love to bring them with me I can't.

J's new love

J has a new found love.
My mom got both J and my nephew original LeapPads for Christmas.
J is absolutely in love with his.

We don't have a lot of apps on it since many of them are above his comprehension level at this point, but there are a couple that he can't get enough of.
The first is one called Pet Pad. He used to play this one so often that he actually calls his LeapPad, "Pet Pad".
A second app that he loves is Art Studio. He's figured out the basics of the program and while he doesn't really draw pictures, he can stamp and colour things which keeps him occupied enough. Plus, he loves telling us what to draw.

The last one that he loves is actually a book. It's a Cars (the movie) book and all he has to do is tap the play button. After that it reads the book to him (complete with sound effects) and turns the pages at the appropriate times.

Missing my crafts!

I'm seriously missing being crafty.
Right now, all of my scrapbooking stuff is put away, all of my fabric is put away and all that is left out is my cake materials so that I can make my final cake this week.
Trying to move means putting craft supplies away.
I understand staging, keeping it clean, etc., but I find myself wanting to make stuff! Especially when I'm lucky enough to have both boys sleeping at the same time.
Eventually I'd like to get back to my monthly Pinterest post, where I would set my "Pinterest goals" and try to get things done by the end of the month. I miss those!
Anyway, here are a couple Pinterest things that I'd like to try within the next month or two.

One last Christmas Gift

I have one last Christmas gift to share with you.
It is a gift that I made, which is why it has taken this long to get them finished.
The gift is monthly dates with The Husband.
I've found that since the two boys have arrived, The Husband and I have less time together than we used to. Therefore, I hope that these monthly dates will give us the opportunity to share some time together (without screaming children).

Since we both love being active, a lot of the dates involve us trying new things or getting out and being physically active. Others are nice relaxing things so that we can talk. Either way, I think they are all going to be things we'll have fun doing.

 Our first date night was last week. Early last year I found a WagJag deal to go bowling and it was a deal for up to six people. So, we got together with our great friends, Emily and Ryan and went for dinner and then headed over to do some bowling.

The funny part about this bowling trip is that it is the same bowling alley I used to hang out at with friends when we were in high school. The greatest part about this bowling alley is the cosmic bowling (oh and the McDonalds drive-thru that is right nearby that we'd hit up on the way home when we were younger).

We got a couple hours of cosmic bowling (with a great DJ) and some good fun. I actually won the first game which is really strange, than The Husband warmed up and it all went downhill for me from there.

I also don't have any pictures because our date was the night before I got my new phone after the old one crapped out on me.

Each month, I'll let you know what our date is (it's a surprise for The Husband as well) and hopefully share some pictures (now that I have a working phone again).

I'll tell you now (because he read it through the envelope) that for February we are going ice skating!

Fitness update

Here's my weekly update.
My weight is stuck and I think it's going the wrong way. I need to fix my eating a little bit more. That's a post for another day though.
I've decided to share some pictures that I took from today and I'm considering this my starting point.

There we have it. That's what I'm working with and it ain't too pretty is it.

As I stated in a previous post, I'm hoping to lose 12 lbs before the middle of March. I did really well last week and the week before, this week I'm struggling.

Luckily, I still have my great friend, Emily, who is doing the C25K with me and goes running with me three times a week.

Tonight, I took a picture of what you need to dress like when you go running in Canada during an extreme cold weather alert.

In this case it was -8 degrees Celcius (without the windchill)

I'm wearing a toque, a neck warmer, 2 long sleeved shirts, a sweater and a jacket.
I was definitely prepared!

How do you stay motivated?

I've done well trying to ignore the crappy foods but I'm starting to slip back into bad habits with it.

My overall fitness goals

I know I've been working on my fitness and healthy eating for a couple of weeks now but I haven't really set any goals for myself until now.
 Fat loss 101: Scale weight is the least important measurement for evaluating your progress!
I know there are some systems that people use where they reward themselves when they hit specific weight goals. Honestly, it may work for some people, but definitely not me. I'd be like, 'meh, I'm 2 lbs away, I'll do it now' and then probably not move forward.
Instead I'm going to have things set by approximate dates.
My first goal is to lose at least 12 lbs by the end of my 10 week challenge. I started the challenge on January 6th and it ends March 16th and started out at 177 lbs (I'm already down 2 by the way).
My second goal is to be down between 15-20lbs by the time I run my 5K in May (putting me between 157-160lbs).
My final goal is to get to 150lbs by the time I have to go back to work in September and then continue to lose from there. I'm not setting an ultimate goal but will be happy with numbers under 150lbs.
My lowest weight ever was 148lbs, but that was definitely a fight. I'd love to be below that but I have to make sure that it's in a healthy way.

How do you reward yourself when you reach fitness goals? Or do you have a different system?

My phone is gone!

I really don't know what to do!
My phone sucks!
I went to turn it on yesterday morning and it just didn't work!
I plugged it in, no battery sign showed up.
I plugged it into my computer, no recognition!
I'm ticked that no one knows how to fix it or will tell me how to. I'm also ticked and upset that I can't get my pictures off of it. I actually started to cry because I was thinking about which pictures are now gone. There weren't any 'hugely' important pictures, but ones that I definitely wish I had saved.
Now I need to get a new phone.
Not impressed because....
....I've lost all my contacts
....I've lost all my pictures
....I've lost all my apps that I had loaded
I need to get a new phone ASAP because I like having one in the car just in case.
Any recommendations on a new phone?
I've looked at the Samsung Galaxy S III or the Sony Xperia Ion but I'm not sure which to go with.

Fitness Challenge

Each Sunday marks the beginning of the next week of my fitness challenge.
Honestly, I'm slightly disappointed because I haven't seen the numbers on the scale dropping as much as I'd like.
I have a feeling I know why though.
I love to snack. The problem with my snacking is that it isn't always the healthy snacking. It's getting better, but previously I was snacking on crackers, chips, etc. I'm slowly trying to move it to veggies, fruit and yogurt but it's hard! The crappy stuff is so yummy! My biggest snacking time is after dinner, once the boys have gone to bed. I usually only have one snack, but it typically involves pop of some sort and something crappy. I need to cut this out! I think it's my biggest downfall right now.
However, last week, I did manage to work out 5 days out of the 7 (doing my videos) and my challenge workouts.
Last week's workout was some moves from the Brazilian Butt Lift program. My legs were incredibly sore after doing these!
This week, it's all about the arms. I started them last night and I did them all!
Even though I'm disappointed that I haven't seen the numbers moving, I can tell that I'm losing some inches. My jeans are a whole lot loser and I can actually get them off without un-doing the button and zipper. Also, I was able to get both rings on at the same time which is exciting. They haven't both been on my finger since I was about 15 weeks pregnant with A.
Lastly, I'm start the C25K program tonight with a friend. I've been wanting to start for awhile, but I was worried about running alone in the dark. She saw that I was signed up for the 5K and offered to begin running with me. She is more fit than I am, but we're both beginner runners so we're a good match! Now I finally get the chance to start training for my 5K in May!

Workout Videos I love!

Honestly, to the people walking by (especially the high school students at around 2:30), I must look like the biggest dork in the world.
I have found two 'workout videos' that I'm absolutely in love with that are helping with my weight-loss challenge.
Since I don't want to spend money going to a gym where I have to drop my boys off in order to work out, I have to do it at home. So, to assist with that goal, I headed to YouTube to see what I could find.
The first video is long, but it's a lot of fun.
It's a Zumba class run by a guy in what I'm assuming is a university fitness class. He teaches each movement before the routine goes together, but I find he does them quickly. Either way, it's fairly repetitive so it works.
The other video is by Keaira Lashae and it's absolutely awesome. I try my hardest at this video but I definitely can't do the moves like she can, hence the 'world's biggest nerd'.
I sweat at ton during this video (and it's only 25 minutes) but it's a ton of fun. Her channel on YouTube has a ton of different videos that look like a lot of fun. She is also a trainer on

A's 3-month 'photo shoot'

I can't believe he's already 3 months old!
As you can see from the picture below, he's found his hands and they are constantly in his mouth and they get all goobery which is disgusting to me.
We're still getting some good long stretches at night which is great.
He absolutely hates his car seat. We have to have everything ready to go before we put him in the seat and even after that he'll cry majority of car rides. This is so a change from J who would sleep the instant he was in the car. It makes for some stressful driving.
This morning, A also rolled from tummy to back! It's making me realize that he's getting big quickly and that I'm missing out with him. Time to spend some more one on one moments with him.
