I successfully finished my second Wilton Cake Decorating class (Flowers and Cake Design).
I found that although my mind was always on how The Husband was handling the two boys, I managed to make some flowers during the classes.
Below are a lily, some daffodils, pansies, a daisy and a rose. These are made out of royal icing so they hold their shape a whole lot better than out of regular buttercream.
For the final cake, we had to bring in our flowers already completed and ready to go. I decided that since it was close to Christmas, I was going to branch out and made poinsettias. Luckily, they are very similar to the way I made the lily so I quickly figured out how to make them. The only difficulty was getting the red colour. They turned out more pink than red.
Here are the poinsettias (I made 12 of them just in case I broke some):
And here is my final cake:
I'm kind of disappointed I didn't get better pictures before I decided to cut into it. I'll definitely have to remember that for my third course, Fondant and Gum Paste, which starts in January!
