Hallowe'en Recap

Here are some pictures from our Hallowe'en. I had to share pictures from last Hallowe'en because J is just too cute!

November Pinterest Projects

Ok, so I didn't get any of my October Pinterest projects completed, but really can you blame me? I have a toddler and a newborn to take care of.

I did manage to do the number version of the beanbags that I made back in September although that wasn't on my list.

I've wanted to make a whole bunch of decorations hoping we'd be in a new house and get it all ready for Christmas, but we're still here and we won't be gone by Christmas so I just decided to forget it for now.

Instead, I'll do some other projects.

Exploding Photo Box

Quiet Book

Christmas Card Holder

For and with J (and eventually A)

I can't wait to show you at the end of November that I've actually achieved something in terms of my creativity!

TAT - Christmas Wishlists for the Boys

Honestly, there are so many toys that I would love to buy my kids. However, we already have a ton of toys and we don't have a lot of space. Despite that, they will still be getting some Christmas gifts.
J's list
Cars movie

We watched the first movie one night on TV and J keeps asking for it. The Husband is going to see if he can find any special edition pack for Christmas. I'm also going to try to find a pair of Cars slippers for his stocking.

I'd love to get this for J to use. I'm sure he'll be a little young for it at first and he'll need some help, but introducing him to technology at his age is important and if he has his own machine he won't need to use ours as much (i.e. not destroy the keyboard of the laptop!)

Ikea Mala Easel in Review
J loves drawing, colouring and painting, but it's not readily available for him to do. I'd love to have an easel set up where he can go and colour whenever he wants or ask to paint. Space is an issue, but hopefully we can work around that. I'm also worried that he'll translate colouring on an easel to colouring on walls, but hopefully we can catch that!

Quiet Book

I've been planning on making J a quiet book for awhile now (as evidenced by my Pinterest board). I'm hoping to get one done by Christmas but I do have a lot of crafty Christmas projects I want to do!

Because J's birthday is so close to Christmas and he has very generous aunts, uncles and grandparents, I decided to make a wishlist for J on the Toys 'r' Us website so I don't have to answer the "What does he want/need question" over and over.

Gifts for A

Well, A is pretty simple considering he'll be a little less than 3 months come Christmas. Technically, he doesn't need anything because he has no clue. However, I'm probably going to get him a gift or two.

Play cube
I figure J will probably play with this but I hope that A will eventually play with it too.

Plush Toys
giggle gang
I'll probably get him a couple little toys that are different from the ones J has.
I made one of these for J about a year ago. I'll make one for A of course and it'll count as one of his presents. Again, he won't be able to use or look at it right away, but it's the thought that counts.

Like I said above, the boys have a very generous family so I'm expecting them to be spoiled over and over again. However, I can't wait for this Christmas, because I think J might actually have a clue of what is happening this year and I hope I won't have to fight to keep him away from the tree as much either!

Need ideas? Head over to Growing up Geeky and check out to see what others have on their lists!

Seraphine Nursing Top Review

A bit ago, I posted about my hatred of breastfeeding but also the fact that I know and feel that it is important.

With J, I avoided nursing in public as much as I could because I hated having everything exposed. I had some nursing tanks and tops but because I was mostly nursing in the winter, those didn't really cut it outside of the house. I'd try to squeeze my errands into the 2.5 - 3 hours window I had and would find the most secluded space to nurse in public if I desperately needed to.
However, this time, I can't stay in the house all day long. J needs to get out and get some exercise, even if it is mall walking on rainy days. I'm comfortable with nursing in public, but I still prefer to be covered up to some degree.
I've worn this top out a couple of times and it definitely makes nursing in public a whole lot easier! The opening, which is just under the chest,  is very easy to manipulate with one hand while trying to calm the screaming, hungry baby with the other. I was even able to nurse without even using a cover since I could adjust the size of the opening to keep everything hidden.
I also love that the top is stylish and comfortable too. It doesn't scream "I'm a breastfeeding mom!". The long sleeves are ideal I can still be warm instead of having to put on extra layers of clothing and then take them all off to feed the baby.
I received the shirt in the classic Black colour, but it is also available in Navy Blue and Chocolate.
There are so many different options at Seraphine as well. The have a wide range of tops, with various types of openings so you can choose what suits you best. They also have a great selection of dresses and pjs as well as a fantastic maternity line.

I will definitely be adding some of the nursing clothing to my Christmas list.

I was not compensated for this review. I received the item free of charge for reviewing purposes. All opinions are honest and my own.

Saturday's Top Five Laughs

My funny moments seem to have a common theme this week (minus #2). I need to get my toddler some sort of inflatable safety suit.
1. J was pulling on the microwave handle trying to get it open to see what was inside. He was pulling and pulling and it just wouldn't let go. Eventually, it opened up and he went flying back and landed directly on his bum. I made sure he was alright before I started to laugh.
2. I took J to an indoor playground this week to let him burn off some energy. He was all excited, climbed his was up into the structure and was all ready to go down the slide. I guess the slippery-ness of the slide and him being a lightweight didn't work out too well. He ended up catching some air on the slide. He wouldn't go back on it unless I went with him.
3. Definitely the black icing/rice krispie moment. Read about it here.
4. We went to the mall to get the boys some Christmas pjs before they all disappeared because I'm hoping to use them to take pictures for holiday cards. J is always so enthralled by everything at the mall that he doesn't look where he's going. Last night, he walked into a flyer stand while he was looking at the automatic door and later he was knocked right over by a lady who was looking in another direction. She was mortified that she'd hurt him but he just popped right up and kept going.
5. I took the boys out for a walk on Thursday in the double stroller. The sidewalk was covered with leaves and I didn't see the piece of sidewalk that was sticking up. J was sitting at the front of the stroller but wasn't strapped in. I guess when I hit the bump and the stroller stopped suddenly he went flying out of the stroller. While I went around to see what we hit, I saw J pulling himself up and wiping off his hands. Again, I made sure he was alright before I started laughing.

Bookworm Challenge..I'm slacking!

I'm glad I got ahead on my Bookworm Challenge! I'm currently 1 book behind to be on track of my current goal of 52 books in 52 weeks, but now that I'm settling into a schedule a little more I've found sometime to sit and read (or stand and read).
I've read 41 books thus far and I'm about to finish book #42. Here's what's on my plan for the next few books.
Book #42 - Almost finished
Knitting Under the Influence
Knitting Under the Influence by Claire LaZebnik
I read Gretchen Rubin's first book, The Happiness Project and really enjoyed it. I was very excited when her second book came out recently.
Happier at Home: Kiss More, Jump More, Abandon a Project, Read Samuel Johnson, and My Other Experiments in the Practice of Everyday Life
Happier at Home by Gretchen Rubin
I've heard a lot of hype about this book, so I'm going to read it.
Gone Girl
 Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
This is the last book in the Sookie Stackhouse series (currently). I finally got some gift certificates to buy it for my e-reader so I can finish the series for now.
Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12)
Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris
I've also been looking at Game of Thrones and Fall of Giants, but I'm not sure if they're really in my range of genres I like to read. If you've read either of these books, please let me know what you think!

Pumpkin Rice Krispies

While at Winners the other day, I found this little kit to make some Pumpkin Rice Krispies. The kit came with all the materials except for 3 Tbsp of butter.
The process was really easy, especially with a toddler helping out. After making the rice krispie mixture, we had to press the mixture into pumpkin molds, take them out and then decorate them with decorators' icing.

J pouring in the rice krispies, eating them out of the bowl and decorating his pumpkin.
Here are the rest of them.
I gave J his to eat while I got the kitchen cleaned up. He started asking for more, so I started to bring him another little piece and this is what I found:

He'd licked all the icing off the top of the pumpkin. Luckily it wipes off easily and his face is pretty much back to normal!

You have to let them get dirty every once in awhile!

Comparing the boys

I decided to compare a couple pictures of the two boys to see how alike or different they are. In both pictures, J is on the left and A is on the right.
Personally, I think they have some similar features, but they look different. I also think A has a darker skin tone than J does.
What do you think?

J's newest obsessions

This week's Toddle Along Tuesday is toddler obsessions. Head over to Growing up Geeky if you want to read about some more obsessions (after you read about J's that is)!
J's newest obsession is definitely the baby. He always checks on him first thing in the morning and when he comes down from his nap. He's even gotten to the point where he tells people not to touch the baby (including The Husband). If we're getting ready to go out and A is in the carrier, J will rock it to make sure he stays quiet (luckily the baby is strapped in tightly) and always lets us know when his little brother is 'sad'.
Kisses from big brother
His other biggest obsession (beside the Bubble Guppies) is pumpkins.
An old picture from last October but I thought it fit well!
We went to Wal-mart the other day to pick up some diapers and groceries and there was a display of pumpkins outside the store. He had to touch every pumpkin! Apparently he did the same thing when his Papa took him to the grocery store during a recent visit.
Last week, when The Husband was still home, we took the boys for a walk and Joseph noticed every pumpkin that people had on their doorsteps. He even bravely tried to go see a few of them.
We haven't gotten our pumpkins yet because I'm worried about the teenagers at the school around the corner coming to destroy them, so we're going to get them next weekend after the Halloween parade/event we go to. I can't wait to see what J thinks of the inside of them especially because he hates getting his hands dirty!
This is one of my favourite pictures from last Halloween!
What's your child's obsession right now? I love how fast they can change!
