September Pinterest Projects!

I'm going to start using my Pinterest properly. Right now, I use Pinterest to pin almost everything (alright, not everything but lots of stuff)!
I'm going to start making some of the things I've pinned. At the beginning of each month I'm going to post 3 or 4 projects I want to make/do/achieve for the house or myself, as well 2 or 3 activities I want to do with or for J. I'll do a tutorial of those that I feel need it throughout the month and I'm planning on doing a recap at the end of the month. There are so many neat things that I've planned on doing that hopefully this will help!
September is going to be a little different. The amount of projects is going to be a little smaller because I'm sure I won't have a lot of time getting ready for Baby Boy #2 to arrive and once he gets here it'll be difficult for the first little bit!
Here are three projects I'd like to do during September either for the house or myself:
Scrapbook covered wooden letters for Baby Boy #2
Watermark Tee for myself

Family Organization Binder

Here are the projects I'm hoping to do with J this month:
Apple craft
Pinned Image
Personalized Alphabet Photobook

Rainbow Alphabet Bean Bags (I'll probably start these but not get them finished this month)

I'm using this as my "craft plan" for the month! I'm really excited to get these projects done and hope I get enough time to get them done (or at least started)!

Scrapbook Wooden Letters & Name Reveal

Technically, this is a craft post, but at the end you'll be able to find out what Baby Boy #2's name is going to be! It took forever to settle on it, but it was one that we kept coming back to! The plan is to do the craft post and reveal the different letters through each step. However, the letters are in a mixed up order that you need to unscramble (or just scroll to the bottom of the post and read it but those who like adventure try to figure it out!)

In J's room, we have wooden letters from Michaels that I painted and The Husband hung up. It's the same for Baby Boy #2 however, I decided to try a different process.

Step 1
Buy the letters. There are sites online where you can order them, but I just decided to get them from Michaels so that I didn't have to wait (or pay shipping).
Step 2
Choose the scrapbook paper you would like to use. In this case, we went with blues and greens. We were hoping to do an owl theme, but we aren't sure when. Anyway, Baby Boy #2's name has 6 letters so I went with 6 pieces of paper and organized them the way I wanted them to appear.
Step 3
I turned each letter over and traced the outline on the back of the scrapbook paper. This way there were no lines on the front of the paper and I would be able to match everything up properly. Cut out the letter from the paper.

Step 4

The letters I chose to use already has a smooth finish to them. Therefore, I had to sand them down a bit. I only sanded a little because I wanted to create some grooves for the Mod Podge to stick into, not get rid of the entire finish.

Step 5
The next step is to use your Mod Podge (I used glossy) and attach the scrapbook paper letter to the wooden letter (good side up - blank side down!). It takes a steady hand to match the paper and the letter up so take some time to do this step.

Step 6
Turn the letter over and using a craft knife cut off the extra paper around the back. This takes some time too because you have to switch hands and getting in some of the tighter spots is tricky.

Step 7
Use some more Mod Podge to seal the paper to the letter. I focused on the edges to make sure they were stuck down and did two coats to make sure they were going to hold. I also used glossy Mod Podge here so that the letters would be a little shiny!
Step 8
Let the Mod Podge dry over night (or longer) and then hang them where you want them to go!
In the future, I'm planning on doing the entire alphabet for the boys' playroom as well as adding embellishment to J's current letters because they are plain blue.
So, were you able to guess the name of Baby Boy #2? If not, here's the finished product:

There you have it!
Baby Boy #2 is also known as:
Andrew Jonathan
I'll probably still refer to him as Baby Boy #2 on here until he comes and then he'll be A but if I don't you'll at least know who I'm talking about!

Pregnancy makes me a crazy lady!

Honestly, that's what I really think. Crazy isn't even close!
I'm thinking it is the pregnancy hormones, but so many little things are driving me absolutely nuts!
Here are some examples:
  • The Husband plays softball and I take J to the games to wear him down (so he'll sleep in!). Last week, I got angry at the other team because they were taking too long to decide who was going to be their courtesy runner! Really, it takes that long to choose!? Pick the fastest guy who isn't drunk! Better yet, let me pick the slowest, fattest guy and we'll go from there!
  • Tonight I ran out to McDonald's because I was craving a  Big Mac. Along the way, I got stuck behind someone who decided not to turn on the advanced green (the green arrow means GO!) and then wanted to move over to the lane that I was in after the turn. Fine, but DO IT! Don't make me stop to let you go!
  • Also on the McDonald's trip, the car in front of me took 5 minutes to order. Naturally, I figured that they had a long order that needed to be cleared up or whatever. I watched as they went to the window to pick up their food. Literally, they ordered an ice cream cone. One freakin' ice cream cone!
  • We have digital cable and J loves to watch the Bubble Guppies. Every once in awhile they update the episodes on our OnDemand station. Well, let me tell you how much they suck! Half the time the episode starts to load and then the system tells me it's not available. I've actually almost thrown the controller because it drives me nuts!
  •  There are these gross house centipedes (I'm not going to show a picture because they really are gross) that take over our house. They live in the pipes and always seem to appear when I'm brushing my teeth. Normally, I'm completely freaked out and get DH to kill them, but lately I'm just pissed at them! I beat them with a shampoo bottle.
  •  This isn't an angry one, instead it's all about my crying. I keep losing it at different things. This afternoon, I lost it while I was watching Teen Mom. For those of you that watch it, it was the part at the end when they were showing the little babies growing up. Ya, full on tears down the cheeks! I also lose it during a Baby Story and One Born Every Minute. I need to just stop watching!
There are definitely more scenarios, but I can't think of them right now. I've probably just blocked them out.
What about you? Does pregnancy make you feel as though you're going insane?

36 weeks!

36 weeks down! 4 to go!

I'm running out of clothes to wear. Definitely in some elastic shorts and a neon tank top.
Baby Boy #2 is now the size of a honeydew melon!
I'm finally down to my weekly appointments to see the OB. However, they are still fairly short. We discussed what happens if I go into labour and the fact that second babies come quickly. I wanted to make sure I get my epidural so I told her and she's going to put it on my paperwork for the hospital.
Sleeping has been brutal. I can't get comfortable, I have really weird dreams, I'm overheating and the heartburn has started. On Sunday night, I actually had a decent sleep from about midnight until 6:45. Still some weird dreams (as in I was an assistant for Dr. Phil), but I didn't have to roll over or get up to go to the bathroom.
I'm getting lots of cramping, lots of BH and feel like a beached whale most evenings. My feet and hands are swelling each night which is great fun!
Most maternity clothes are just really uncomfortable right now and I can't wait to fit back into my regular stuff! Track pants, yoga pants and sweatshirts are definitely in my future (especially with Fall around the corner).

The scary thing is, I have another mommy friend is who 3 days (not weeks) ahead of me and had her sweet little girl today! How crazy is that?! He can come anyime!

I'm slowly getting through my checklist. Here's what's left:
Buy double stroller
Wash 0-3 months clothes
Wash receiving blankets & towels
Bring out & clean up baby swing
Install infant seat in car
Pack hospital bags
Book newborn photographer
Plan for what to do with J
Write out J's schedule
Set up pack 'n' play in our bedroom
Freezer meals
Stock up on newborn diapers
Buy monthly stickers
Buy newborn baseball hat for pictures
Big Brother shirt for J
Develop questions for Lactation Consultant
New nipples for the bottles
Bear from Build-a-Bear to compare to Baby Boy #2

TAT - Easy Recipes!

Yay! I'm the co-host of Toddle Along Tuesday!
I love cooking, but I hate it at the same time. If we could cook dinners in the morning, when I have a ton of energy then I'd definitely be a gourmet chef! However, by the time dinner rolls around I'm exhausted and want something quick, easy and tasty. In comes my chili!
I love it because it's healthy, there's little prep work, it can be made in the slow-cooker or on the stove-top and there are usually leftovers for days! Also, you can add other ingredients or take some away depending on your personal tastes. For example, The Husband usually adds lots of chili powder and has been known to add corn and mushrooms to his bowl after he's served it.
- lean ground beef
- 1 red pepper chopped
- 1green pepper chopped
- onion
-1 can red kidney beans
-1 can brown beans in tomato sauce
-1 can diced tomatos
-1 can tomato sauce
-chili powder

Cut up the peppers and onion and brown the ground beef. If you want you can brown the onion before, but I find in the slow-cooker the juices get into the onion and soften them that way. Combine all ingredients in the slow-cooker. Add as much or as little chili powder as you would like and stir. Cook on low for 8 hours.

For the stove-top, brown the beef, add the remainder of the ingredients and let simmer on the stove-top for about an hour.
For the slow cooker version, I brown the beef the night before, drain it and put it in the fridge. I cut up all my peppers and onions, place them in a container and put them in the fridge. If I'm doing it on the stove-top, I don't drain the beef. I find the little bit of extra fat makes it that much yummier!
We also have rolls, an Italian loaf or fresh baked bread machine bread with it.
Just thinking about it is getting me excited for the cooler weather to come!

This week's Toddle Along Tuesday topic is easy go-to meals! Melissa and I are due just a few days apart and are looking for some quick & easy recipes we can make when baby is here. There are no rules here, except that you link up a relevant post (old or new) rather than your whole blog.

Back to School Time!

I normally love and loathe this time of the year. I love it because I get to go back to my day job of teaching little (and sometimes bigger) munchkins but I loathe it because it means getting up early.
Here's what I love about it:
- cooler temperatures in the morning and a gorgeously warm afternoon
- going into my classroom and decorating it
- learning the names of my students and trying to put faces to the names
- back to school shopping (I love the gadgets)
- Fall is just around the corner
What I loathe about it:
- having to get up earlier and earlier in order to get back on "schedule"
- the 'homework' I give myself in order to be ready for the first day
- trying to find work clothes that fit and are appropriate for the grade I'll be teaching
- having to think about packing my lunch
- planning, planning, planning
- the lack of sleep that comes with the first day of school
- the exhaustion of the first week
However, for the second September in a row, I'll be missing the first day of school. In fact, I'm out for the entire school year and I must say it feels pretty weird to not have to do any planning at all. Last year, I went back in January and wasn't sure I was going to survive my first week. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be missing some things that I love!
However, there are many positives to being home and as big as a whale for a couple more weeks:
- being home with J and getting to play and interact with him
- the malls will be empty (same with the zoo) meaning I can maneuver without bumping into people
- I'm going to get a newborn to cuddle in a couple weeks
- I'll be able to find some babysitters since they won't all be on vacation
- no big kids at the park or indoor playgrounds
What do you look forward to now that school is back in?
Oh! Guess what! Tomorrow I'm hosting Toddle Along Tuesday over at Growing up Geeky! It's time to link up your favourite easy recipes. I'm looking to build my recipe book for when Baby Boy #2 arrives so that I can still provide home-cooked meals for my family! Linky goes live tonight (Monday) at 8pm EST!

Blog Upgrade

This weekend I'm hoping revamp my blog a bit now that I've got my fancy new design.
Two things:
1. If anyone wants to swap buttons I'd love to feature you in a post and put your button on my side bar. Just email me at
2. It was brought to my attention that my comment platform disappeared. I'll get that working again this weekend (hopefully).
Have a good weekend everyone!

The Husband's Birthday

The Husband's birthday was actually Wednesday. I had been working with J for a couple of days to get him to say "Happy Birthday" and "Happy Birthday Daddy". Sometimes it comes out properly sometimes it doesn't.
The Husband actually had a softball game on his birthday, so we've saved our dinner/date plans for the weekend. Not much too it, probably just dinner and a movie or dinner and some mini-golf. Instead, I made some cupcakes to take to his softball game to celebrate with our friends. It was also my friend Emily's birthday last weekend so we celebrated them at the same time!
As usual, the husband didn't want any gifts for his birthday. He's actually really hard to buy for so it works out well. Instead, I found this idea on Pinterest:
The Husband is a big fan of naps on the weekend and loves lying on the floor. I figure let's kill two birds with one stone. The Husband can lie down and relax and J can drive the cars all over his back.
I headed out to Michaels, got The Husband a t-shirt and some fabric markers and went to work! Here's how it turned out:
Looks somewhat like the one in the picture!
We just borrowed some Hot Wheels cars from my mom (since she has lots) and J can drive some of his bigger cars on there too.
I think it's really cute and it was the perfect gift (since he already has lots of pictures of J)! The Husband loves it and is planning on wearing during my Saturday morning sleep-in when he gets to get up early to watch J. :)
What do you think?

My new blog design!

I was going to post a little about The Husband's birthday yesterday (which will come tomorrow). Instead, I'm going to brag about my new blog design by Sommerfugl Design!
sommerfugl photography and design
Isn't it the greatest thing ever?
Alright I'm sure most of you love your own blog designs best or have a preferences for some others, but I am in love with mine. I love the two little boys and how cute they are (yay J and Baby Boy #2). I also love the representation of The Husband. At first Desirae had him dressed in a suit and I asked if we could change it. The Husband only wears suits at weddings and funerals so when I was checking out the design the first time I thought it was really weird to see him in a suit and it just didn't sit right!
That was one of the best things about working with Desirae! She was very accommodating. Even when I changed the boys hair colour 3 or 4 times!
My favourite part is the colour scheme. I got to pick it, but I definitely love how well they all go together. I'm a big fan of greens and blues and turquoises!
Lastly, the cute little social media buttons are awesome! Now you can easily connect to my Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest pages and find my RSS feed and email.
The amazing thing about Desirae is that she did all of this while 35-37 weeks pregnant and taking care of her two other kiddies! I have no idea how she has the energy to do this at this point in her pregnancy because I'm so exhausted that I can get only a bit of work done at a time around the house!
Don't believe me that she's this pregnant? Check out her other blog
the not so ugly ducklings

So, thanks so much Desirae! I really appreciate all the work you did and I'll definitely be singing your praises for a long time to come! Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well and I can't wait to see pictures of the new little one when they make their arrival!

The infamous 35/35

I have hit the infamous
35 weeks down...35 DAYS to go!
Baby Boy #2 is now the size of a coconut!
I can tell that I'm getting down to the end. He feels very heavy and I'm just uncomfortable overall.
Yesterday, I had a miserable day. I had lots of Braxton Hicks contractions, a lot of soreness in my back and some mild cramping. Nothing came of it, but it just made for a crappy day. J watched way too much TV in the morning, but I just couldn't do anything!
My biggest craving right now is regular chips with French Onion dip. I just can't get enough of it, but now I'm thinking ahead to my goal in May and thinking that it's just going to cause me that much more work! That's what my thinking is going to be from this point forward and I plan on eating a lot better from here on out and doing some more walking and activity with J. Not too much though because I don't want this baby to come too early.
In terms of movement, I feel like I'm getting the crap kicked out of me, from the inside out! He picks on this one nerve on my left side and it actually causes me pain, not just discomfort. The Husband has heard me say "ow" so many times that he thinks I'm exaggerating!
I have my 35 week appointment on Thursday (yay for swabs!) and I'm sure everything will be fine as usual. After that, my appointments are every week! Thank heavens my mom is around to watch J for those appointments since I don't like dragging him to the OB. You never know how long you're going to be waiting!
I'm excited to share the t-shirt that J is going to be wearing when he comes to visit us in the hospital (this will be explicit in my instructions...haha)!
Haha! I just noticed my foot is in the picture!
I ordered it from Zulily a while back and I think it's the cutest thing ever!
Make sure you check back next week for my 36 week check in! I'm thinking he's in there for the long haul so there's still four more weeks of check-ins (at least!)
Check out my Facebook and Twitter accounts too! I'm going to try to keep them updated a little more, especially once I go into labour and am spending my time in the hospital so make sure you're following there too!
