This week's Toddle Along Tuesday is all about occupations. It can be a real occupation, dream occupation, former occupations, etc.
My regular day job for the past 6 years has been an elementary school teacher. Right now and until September 2013, I get to be a stay-at-home mom.
Honestly, I love both jobs (although teaching pays better money). They are both my dream jobs.
I love teaching. I love watching kids figure things out. I'm the type of teacher that tries to provide hands on activities where the kids experience their own learning as opposed to me standing up there and sounding like Charlie Brown's teacher. I enjoy getting right into the learning with the kids. The only negatives I have about teaching are report cards and having to deal with parents who suck. Thus far, I've taught Grade 3, 5, 6 and Special Education. Ultimately, my dream teaching job would be Kindergarten!
I don't know what it is exactly about Kindergarten that I enjoy more than the other grades, but I did two placements during my student teaching in Kindergarten settings and I adored them. I was fortunate enough to be placed in a Kindergarten class for September, but I'll be on maternity leave. Which leads to Job #2.
I get to be a stay at home mommy until next September! That's one of the perks of living in Canada...1 year paid maternity leave.
I love being at home with J (most days). Yes, the ability to take a nap in the middle of the day is definitely a plus, but there is so much more to it. I like being the one to take him out to see and learn new things. I love spending the one on one time with him and watch him develop. I felt as though I was missing things when he was at daycare.
The one thing about staying at home that I'm not a huge fan of is keeping the house. I'm not a fan of cleaning. I know I have to do it and we all have to do things we hate, but I really could leave cleaning behind. The worst by far is sweeping floors and vaccuming. I hate bringing the vaccum up, dragging it around and having to put it back away. Maybe I'll just have to convince The Husband to get a cleaning lady.
Come link up with us or check out some other occupations! I love learning what other people do on a daily basis!
