Sorry I haven't been around too much these past few days. I'm having so  much fun with my pregnancy this time around. It seems my immune system has decided to go on vacation and my body decided to rebel. It starts with a cough/cold I had about 3 months ago. The cough (which usually happens) is hanging around and causing more problems. This weekend, I developed a lovely ear infection, which has severely affected my hearing in my left ear, as well as caused pain, discomfort and some very interesting vertigo. Anyway! Away from my whining.

This week at Growing up Geeky's Toddle Along Tuesday - you're favourite places to shop!

My ultimate place to shop is:

I love this store and could live in it. I just recently decided that I'm going to be taking a cake decorating course in July as a way to get out of the house and to learn something I've always wanted to learn. However, I could be found in any aisle at any time of the day.

Anyway, since it's Toddle Along Tuesday, my favourite places to shop for J's clothes:

I love these stores. I find their prices to be reasonable and the clothes to be adorable. The best thing about these clothes is definitely the durability of them. J is hard on his clothes (I'm pretty sure every outfit has been to the park already) and as he's started to eat more independently he makes a mess.

I have to give honourable mention to

Hobby Lobby Logo

I've only been there once and fell in love instantly! Unfortunately, they don't have them here in Canada so I can only go when I'm down in the US!

What about you? What are your favourite places to shop?

Some Random Thoughts!

Holy moly! We very quickly got up to 30 degrees celcius here, which in any other summer I'd gladly be welcoming, but being 5 1/2 months pregnant, teaching hormonal teenagers on a second floor classroom and chasing around a 16 month old has worn me out completely. I've had a headache for 2 days (with some relief from Tylenol but not much) and very little sleep. DH finally gave in to my whining and turned on the A/C.

I'm hoping to get some Father's Day gifts done this weekend. Here is an example of what I'm planning on making for my Dad and my FIL. I'd show what I'm making for The Husband, but he could stumble upon this and spoil the surprise.

Great Dads get promoted to Grandfathers Wood Sign for that Special Man

In other news, I have about a month left of school (yay!) which means J has about a month of daycare left and then he's back to being home with me full time. I'm torn about this actually. Part of me wants him home all the time so that I can play and watch him grow, but then there is a part that wonders if he's going to be sad about leaving. It's only for a year and then he'll be going back. Then I start to wonder what the transition will be like with a 2.5 year old going back into daycare. We have to take him out though, it's just too expensive with the limited income. Any insight?

Anyway, with him being home, I've started to look for ideas to keep him busy and come July will start a new weekly post on keeping toddlers busy, happy and healthy. I'm hoping to find some ideas and share some of my ideas that will keep him learning while he's home.

Anyway, that's all the randomness I've got going on. I hope everyone else has a fantastic weekend.

22 weeks!

 22 weeks!

Not much of a change from last week to this week other than I'd say that the munchkin (who is still nameless) is much more active this week. The Husband still can't feel him on the outside, but as soon as I sit down I definitely feel him. He especially hates when I lean forward and he's all smushed up.

I also wanted to show you my lovely summery maternity t-shirt! It's already a little tight, but I got a lot of compliments on it today so I wanted to share!

Also, my new favourite snack. Strawberries and (lots of) whipped cream! Yum!
Hopefully we'll be able to take J out strawberry picking (even for a photo opportunity).

I'm hoping to have some good posts this week. I'm working on The Husband's and the Grandfather's Father's Day gifts. I'm getting a head start so hopefully I'll be able to post one or the other later this week. I'm also going to start looking into my quiet book project again as well as some busy bags for J for when Munchkin #2 arrives.

What are you up to this week!?

My Favourite First!

This week we are linking up our favourite firsts over a Growing up Geeky.

I think mine, by far, has got to be J's first steps.

He started walking at 11 months and I know it opened up a whole new world for him (and me). Yes I had to chase him around a little more and keep a better eye on things, but once he started to walk he became instantly independent. He was able to get to where he wanted to go and get what he wanted
(and he really hasn't stopped to be honest).
Head on over to Growing up Geeky for Toddle Along Tuesday to see what firsts other mommies look back on fondly!

Long Weekend Fun!

So far we've been blessed with an awesome long Victoria Day weekend!  The Husband and J have been making their daily trips to the park and we've even gone to see a house (way too old for us). Here are some pictures of J at the park and then some of J helping Daddy cut the lawn (don't worry, the lawn mower was off and we were right there supervising). I made them nice and big for easy viewing!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend too!

21 weeks!

I just realized that I never did my bump post for this week. Well, here I am at 21 weeks in all my glory! Yesterday, I went shopping for some warm weather maternity clothes, so I think that I've got all season of maternity clothes in case we decide to ever try for baby #3 (we have to survive #2 first).

I had my first OB appointment this week. Here we see the GP until 20 weeks and then we start going to see the OB. It was weird being the least pregnant person in the office again. I received all of my hospital forms and got to hear the munchkin's heartbeat again.

21 weeks with #2

21 weeks with J

Looking at the two pictures, I think I'm definitely bigger than I was with J, but not as much as I thought. I feel as though I'm 100 times bigger. Maybe it's just because I'm 100 times busier and more miserable! Either way, 19 weeks left!

Stroller Wars!

One of the first things I started looking at when we found out we were pregnant with Baby #2 was strollers. There were so many options when we went to get a stroller the first time around, that I was hoping it was going to be a bit easier. Boy, was I wrong! Instead, I've entered the world of craziness!

There are so many questions! Do I want a sit 'n' stand, side-by-side, front and back? Does it work with the carrier we arleady have? Will J want to sit, walk, sleep, etc.? How heavy is it? Will it fit in the trunk of my car? Do I need to be a weightlifter to put it in my car? The list goes on and on and on!

I've narrowed it down to these two choice and I'm working from there.

1. BabyTrend - Sit 'n' Stand Double

We already have the BabyTrend Expedition with the Infant Carrier so this works well because I wouldn't need to get a new carrier. The back seat of the stroller comes off and turns into a sit 'n' stand. J will be only be 21 months when Baby #2 comes along, so I expect he will still need the opportunity to sit in a stroller every once in awhile as opposed to just on the sit 'n' stand seat. The carrier goes in front of the back seat which worries me slightly because J will be closer to the Baby than I will be.

2. BabyTrend - Sit 'n' Stand Ultra

This stroller only has the one seat so once Baby #2 is out of the carrier, J has to go on the seat in the back. Again, not sure how well he'll do just being in the back but I guess that's where you come in and can tell me whether you 2+ year old stays on the sit 'n' stand. I'm more concerned about trips to the zoo or amusement park.

So what's the verdict?! Do you think I should get number 1 or number 2? I'm so confused! HELP!?

3 things I never thought I'd do!

I'm excited for Growing up Geeky's Toddle Along Tuesday. This week's topic is Things You Never Thought You'd Do.

1. Talk in baby talk
I've always thought that people that sit there and do "goo goo ga ga" with a baby was annoying. However, I found myself talking like that to J. Not necessarily doing the "goo goo.." part, but definitely using the higher voice and not pronouncing words properly. I have promised myself I'm not going to do it with #2. Of course I'll talk to the baby, just not necessarily in a higher pitched voice.

2. Revolving my day around a nap schedule!
Because if I don't, I get a grumpy baby who is crazy or I get this:

3. Helping my child poop!
Ok, I understand this is extremely disgusting, but I'm sure most moms (and probably a good chunk of dads) have had to help their child with the pooping process. I found that when J was changing from formula to milk, his poop changed and it took a lot of work on his part to get it out. In two instances, I've actually had to pull poop from my child's bum. The poor kid was in so much pain that it was my first instinct to help it along! Please raise your hand if you are in this point so that I don't seem so crazy!
Not the greatest picture, but it's the dreaded poop face!

Head over to Growing up Geeky and link up the things that you never thought you'd do!

Mother's Day Craft!

Happy Mother's Day to all my fellow mothers out there. I woke up this morning to these beautiful roses and two cards from J. We then went to brunch with my family to celebrate my mom and this afternoon we have my nephew's 4th birthday pary!

I've decided that instead of celebrating Grandparents Day, I will give J's grandparents gifts during Mother's and Father's Day. This is the craft "we" made for his Grandma and Grandmom.

Materials: 2 terra cotta pots, craft paint, chalkboard paint, non-toxic paint, Sharpie paint pen, fake plant moss, wooden dowel and ribbon.

The first step was to paint the pots (each took 3 coats) and get J's handprints (easier said than done).

Then I cut out a template for the chalkboard section and traced the outline onto the pot. I was torn between this shape, an oval or a rectangle.

I painted the area with Martha Stewart's chalkboard paint and then outlined them with a Sharpie paint pen. I tried two different patterns, one with dashes and one with just the black  area outline with a solid line.

Afterwards, I taped the flowers (hands) and leaves to the dowel, filled the pot with the moss, tied the ribbon around the pot and wrapped it up in some tissue paper.

My mom really loved it. I figured she would leave his hands in there for a bit and then eventually plant what she wants to plant. She can write down what is in the pot because it is chalkboard paint and can change it easily if need be. I can't wait to give J's Grandma hers when we see her!

What about you? How was your Mother's Day?

Lemon Cake Cookies

The Husband, J and I went to BBQ last night at some good family friends of ours. I demanded that I was bringing dessert so that I could try this new recipe I found on this amazing blog called Live. Love. Iowa.

It's a recipe for Lemon Cake Cookies and they were delicious and SOOO easy to make. I got lots of rave reviews over them (even though I hate our oven and they got a little crispy on the bottom). Check out the recipe below (and then go check out Live. Love. Iowa. too!)

Quick and Easy Lemon Cake Cookies
adapted from AllRecipes.com

1 box of white cake mix
2 eggs
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 tablespoon lemon extract
1/3 cup powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Pour cake mix into a medium mixing bowl. Add eggs, vegetable oil, and lemon extract. Mix until combined.

Drop teaspoonfuls of the dough into the powdered sugar. Roll around until lightly covered. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake for 6 to 9 minutes.

I added a little more lemon extract so that the lemon taste came through, but that is definitely up to you!

Yay! On Tuesday, I was officially 20 weeks! Which means this baby boy is half-baked! Only 20 more weeks (give or take a couple) and my little guy will be here to meet us!

Here's my 20 week picture (only a day late!) Looking at the picture, I feel much bigger than I look. I still haven't gained any weight according to the scale, which probably won't make my doctor too happy next week, but my appetite still hasn't fully returned. I eat breakfast, but don't really enjoy it. I'm completely starved by lunch time and when dinner rolls around I can't really stand the sight of food. I'm hoping that this leaves quickly, but I'm glad I'm not gaining as much as I did with J.

I'm feeling the Baby #2 sometimes throughout the day, but my students keep me so busy and on my toes that I really only feel him when I'm sitting and it's calm, but I feel him more in the evenings and at night. The Husband was even able to feel him a couple nights ago. It was really light, but he managed to feel him somehow! I love the feeling of him kicking and The Husband being able to share in that.

J has started (kinda) to say "baby". It comes out da-da, as do most words, put the tone is slightly different and he's usually smacking or tapping my stomach. It's really cute!

We still haven't had many hot days yet, so I'm just waiting to see what that has in store for me. With J, I wasn't big until late September/early October so I'm sure I'll be miserable and the A/C will be cranked!

We still haven't settled on a name and I'm not sure if we are until he's born. I just don't want to feel as though I made a mistake. Our short list has gotten shorter, but it could still change. The Husband just doesn't want me to be making any crazy decisions under the influences of an epidural and personally, I don't blame him!
