I am a Master of Education!

I apologize to those of you that have heard this multiple times, but I have finally finished my Masters. Technically, I'm done. There are no more papers to write, no more classes or lectures to sit through and no more research papers to read. Realistically, I don't get my diploma until March, but I know I'm done (as does my wallet!)

Looking back, I figured 2.5 years of life, what could really happen in that much time? I'll have plenty of time to get my Masters. Boy was I wrong. First of all, I was a part-time student since during most of my degree, I was working as a teacher full-time and would attend class at night.

Then, The Husband and I got married about a year into my degree. We went on our honeymoon (I took an online class during that time) and found out we were pregnant. I thought, nice, I can finish my degree during the year that I'm on maternity leave. I can work when the baby is napping and in the evenings.

That was nearly impossible, but with lots of love, support and babysitting from my Mom and single-dad nights from The Husband, I'm finished.

I feel like I have my life back, I can do what I want during nap times and I couldn't be happier!

Holiday Ornaments

So I have finally finished my Masters. I am handing in my last paper on Monday night (yay!) so now I feel as though time is mine again (well, I can't forget about Monkey) but nap time and after bed time are mine again.

I started celebrating "me" time again by making some ornaments for our tree. This year they'll be big on the tree (we have a small one) but I'm hoping we'll move soon, get a big tree next Christmas and they'll look normal.

The first ornament was a snowman.

This is what you need to make it:

Artifical snow (with glitter if you prefer)

Clear ornaments

Paint pens

Paper for a funnel

The How to:

First you need to fill up the ornaments with the snow. I used a piece of paper and made a funnel to help get the snow in but it was still a mess. I wiped down the ornaments (they had a lot of glitter on them) and then drew on their faces with a paint pen and an orange permanent marker. I tied a Christmas-y ribbon through the top and it's ready to hang!

The second ornament I made was a Santa Belly. I thought this was really cute!

What you need:
Red scrapbook paper
Paint pens

The How To:
I cut the red scrapbook paper into 3/4 inch strips, then rolled them up and stuck them into the ornament. It's okay if they unroll slightly. I then used tape to go around the whole ornament and trace the "belt" lines so I knew where to colour/paint. I used a silver paint marker for the buckle but it didn't turn out great. I'll probably redo them. I then again tied ribbon to the top and it's ready to go on the tree!

I got both of these ideas from Pinterest and I can't wait to put them on the tree!

Here is my new project and I'll be documenting this one. I figure it will take me at least the week. I'm making an Advent calendar, which will have a treat in it when Monkey get older along with a Christmas activity to do with the family on each day of the month. I'm really excited about this. Maybe a little too excited!

I think my crafting deserves a vote. What do you think?

Winter Shadowbox Craft

I finally finished the craft that I had been planning to make last week. It took me some time to get to the craft store to get the remaining bits.

Want to make this? Here are the instructions.

Shadowbox frame
Scrapbook paper (patterned & black)
20 mm bells
Scrapbooking glue

Glue the patterned scrapbook paper to the cardboard backing and then trim the edges so it fits perfectly. I then used my Cricut to cut out the phrases "Let it snow". I used the 1", the 1.25" and the 1.5" setting so that they would all fit. I glued them on the cardboard backing. This last step is the trickiest part (and it isn't even that tricky). I placedall of the bells in the one corner of the frame and made sure the letters could be seen. Close up the frame and you're done! I'm thinking of adding some snowflakes around the sides and possibly a small white bow.

So here's the final product.

Toddle Along Tuesday - Thankful

To be honest I'm surprised I haven't already done a post like this considering Thanksgiving up here in Canada is in October. I already enjoyed my turkey and stuffing (but would definitely eat more).

I decided that I would do an acrostic poem for the things that I am Thankful for:
T - Time with my family and friends
H- Having a healthy and happy baby boy
A- A year of maternity leave
N - New cell phone (not really going with the theme, but I can't help it, I love it)
K - Knowing I can rely on people for help
F - Fall and all the beautiful colours and wonderful weather
U - An Understanding husband who has put up with a lot this year
L - Last but not least, my January mommas & new blogging friends!
I hope everyone has a yummy Thanksgiving. Save some turkey and stuffing for me!

Weekend Planning

I'm not completely sure what we're up to this weekend as we're heading to visit my in-laws.

I finally got the missing piece to my first "Christmas/winter" craft so I'll finish it when I get back from our weekend trip and post on Sunday. I'll also post my new project that I'll be starting, which I'm really excited about.

Hope everyone has a really good weekend!

Tasty Thursday

I don't have a recipe for this week since we've been really busy. Plus I really only enjoy baking dessert type things and I'm trying to cut back a bit.

However, this week I have the featured recipe meaning I had the most page views! I hope people have made the Soft Ginger Cookies from last week. They really are tasty, and I can't make them without listening to Christmas music.

Questions for Veteran Mommies

So I've lasted 10 months as a mother. Some days I wasn't sure I was going to survive but I have. Now, a whole new set of challenges are appearing as Monkey begins to get bigger (he took some small steps yesterday!) With these new challenges come some question so I'm hoping some of my "veteran" mommy readers can help me (and some of other new mommy readers) out.

Question 1 - Do diaper changes get easier?

It is literally a fight to change his diaper! The amount of screaming that goes on (from him, not me) is insane! If we lived in an apartment, people would think some sort of torture is going on. I usually have to give him some sort of distractions (e.g. a shoe, water bottle, even the Tylenol bottle) but now he sees the distraction and starts to scream. They get easier right?

Question 2 - They eventually start feeding themselves, right?

Monkey doesn't like anything on his tray table so as soon as food is put down it's swiped off onto the floor. We still feed him using a spoon and sometimes our fingers. One day we'll get bitten, I just know it.

Question 3 - Do they ever "like" their carseat?

Monkey used to fall asleep in his carrier all the time. Now he tenses up completely and I can barely geting him into his "big boy" seat. Again, I'm sure people think I'm torturing him trying to get him into the seat.

Question 4 - Does bedtime/naptime get easier?

Naptime is similar to diaper changes. Scream bloody murder for about 20-30 minutes and then sleep from exhaustion. So frustating! Bedtime is easier, but when he notices we're heading up for bed the screaming does start, it just doesn't last as long.

Question 5 - How can you love them so much when they drive you so crazy?

Monkey drives me NUTS and I'm pretty sure I tell him this multiple times a day. But no matter how much he makes me pull my hair out or how often I have to clean corn off the floor, I love him.

I'm in a funk!

I'm kind of in a funk. I don't feel as though I have too much to write about these days, hence the no posting for a few days too. There are also some days where I just don't have the time. I'm not a huge fan of "scheduling" posts. I know it works for some people, but sometimes there are interesting things that happen that day that I'd rather post about.

Weekends are busy right now. This weekend we had a party to attend and dinner with my family. I'm also trying to get my last paper completed for my Masters.

I had promised one of the Pinterest crafts on Friday. I got it partially completed, but then I ran into a roadblock. I'm hoping to have it finished today so I'll post it tonight.

In the meantime, here's a picture of Monkey. He's starting to stand on his own, without help. He's even taken a step. Everyone's thinking he'll be walking by Christmas, kinda crazy because then he'll be into EVERYTHING!

Tasty Thursday - Soft Ginger Cookies

Last year, I was given a delicious ginger cookie by one of my students (her mom made it...otherwise I probably wouldn't have eaten it) and it quickly became one of my pregnancy cravings. So I found a recipe for ginger cookies and made them repeatedly last year.

These are now definitely favourites, they come out of the oven soft and stay soft when put into a tin or container for storage (but really who has a chance to 'store' cookies...mine are usually gone pretty quickly).

3/4 cup of butter (no substitutes) softened
1 cup of sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup of molasses
2 1/4 cup of flour
2 tsps ground ginger
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
Additional sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter and sugar. Beat in egg and molasses. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture. Roll into 1 - 1/2 inch balls and roll in the additional sugar. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until puffy and lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool. Enjoy with hot chocolate under a comfy blanket!

Been busy!

Hi everyone!

I apologize for my lack of new posts. I just realized I haven't posted since Wednesday. I have a paper/presentation due on Monday so I'm a little busy with that right now.

Monkey turns 10 months tomorrow so this week there will definitely be a post about that. Plus, I'm going to do something new for my slow-cooker for Tasty Thursday and one of my Pinterest projects on Friday. So please come back and visit this week.

Pinspired - Christmas Edition

I'm on Pinterest and I love it! I spend the majority of my time on the site looking at the DIY and Crafts page. I love it! There are so many cute and "holiday-y" things that I want to make but I'll only show you a few for now.

First, this little snowman face. It can be used on so many different things such as gift tags, ornaments and name places at Christmas dinner!

A little felt Nativity scene is great. I'm sure Monkey is going to be into everything this year and our current Nativity scene is a small glass one. I think this would fit into our need of child-proof and purposeful.

Glitter trees. These look so easy to make and would look fantastic around the house.

Cute, simple little tree!

Apparently, these can be found at Pottery Barn for a significant amount of money. Making this would save me a bunch.

Button wreath. Such a statement out of buttons!

Paint stick Christmas ornaments. Paint sticks, scrapbook paper and modge podge!

As I said before, these are just some of the many Christmas ideas I've pinned. If you want to check out what else I've seen click the button below and feel free to follow me on Pinterest!
