Happy Halloween!

Monkey thoroughly enjoyed his first Halloween (I think). Here's the day in pictures!

Beyond Frustrated

My frustration is mounting. I got on the scale and was back up a pound this morning. I really don't know what to do anymore and I'm really starting to get down about it. I'm clearly not one of those people whose weight melts off when they were/are breastfeeding nor am I one of those people who can eat whatever they want and not gain a pound (ahem...my sister). I am one of those people who has to watch every little thing that is put into my mouth and needs to work out 8 days a week in order to lose anything.

Now, I admit, I haven't been stellar with exercising. I've been WAY less than that actually but when Monkey goes for a nap, I want to relax. I want to sit, drink my tea, pin things, read others blogs, be crafty, etc. This, clearly, does not raise the heart rate. I know most people will say well then take him for a walk. I would, except my child does not want to sit in the stroller for longer than 20 minutes now that he knows he can get to where he wants on his own. Therefore, I end up having a screaming child who clearly looks as though he is being abducted and getting many strange looks for those nice elderly couples walking down the street.

Part of me thinks, why lose the weight when you're planning on getting pregnant again at some point and just gaining it all back and going through all this annoying weight loss crap again. Don't get mad. I understand the concept of being overweight and pregnant, but unless you're one of those people that hasn't lost any baby weight at all (like me), you don't get it, not one little bit. I worked my butt off to lose 17lbs 3 years ago and it was one of the hardest things I've ever done. So now to be faced with this challenge again (and to most likely be faced with it in the future) is a scary, frustrating, overwhelming thing.

So here I sit, contemplating lunch (now all teary-eyed). I really want to go out to McDonalds and get a Big Mac combo, eat all of the burger AND the fries, refill my pop 2 or 3 times and be happy. Instead, I'm going to eat the pasta (leftover) that is sitting in my fridge and be miserable.

I'm hoping this gets better, but I'm thinking it doesn't.

Me, happy at 148lbs on our honeymoon (with Monkey along for the ride in my belly)

Changes

Chronicles of a Shrinking Mommy is now Smiles 'n' Snuggles!

I have decided to change my blog around a little for a couple reasons:

1. I'm not really shrinking so the previous name didn't fit.

2. I'm posting more about Monkey than anything else

3. I'd like to focus more on crafts and DIY projects as well (which again didn't fit before)

I'm still working on some changes so please bear with me (and let me know if there is anything you like/don't like).

Please vote. I'm getting close to breaking 50!

Weekend Planning

It feels like Fall is leaving quickly, especially because November is right around the corner. November to me means there can be snow at any time and the cold, grey, blahness of winter starts to move in. Also, come November, I'm down to 2 months left of my maternity leave. Not fun!

Anyway, here are my plans for the weekend:

Friday

Laundry

Keep learning how to crochet

Errands (Michaels, Dollarama)

Read 1 research paper

Exercise

Saturday

Halloween fun fair!
Scrapbook pages (7 & 8 months

Laundry (Monkey's clothes/sheets)

Read another research paper

Exercise

Sunday

Wash kitchen/dining room floor

Clean bathrooms

Vacuum

Start research for final paper!

Watch some football

Craftiness

What are you up to this last weekend of fall October?

Tasty Thursday - Gourmet Grilled Cheese

With the miserable weather hitting us these past few weeks, I decided to pull out an easy but yummy meal ~ SOUP & SANDWICHES! Usually we just do vegetable soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, but this time we tried gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches.

Ingredients
Technically you can use whatever you'd like. We used:
Bree cheese
Swiss cheese
Provolone cheese
Texas toast
Granny Smith apples
Tomatoes
Bacon

Directions:

My sandwich was a bree and granny smith sandwich enjoyed with vegetable soup.

The Husband made two sandwiches: one with swiss cheese, bacon and tomato and the other with provolone, bacon and tomato.

They were really easy to make.

Photography Challenge - Day 26

Today's picture is a close-up. Everytime I take out the camera, this is what I get. He tries to grab it and a lot of pictures turn out like this!

Toddle Along Tuesday - Milestones

For the most part, Monkey is right on track with milestones. He's a little ahead on some things, a little behind on others. But it's perfect for him.

By far, my favourite milestone thus far is him learning to smile. It happened way back when but it still puts a smile on my face when I see a big smile on his! We had the good gummy smile from about 10 weeks until 6 months. At 6 months, those two bottom teeth popped in. Now, we're greeted with a 6 tooth grin and I love it.

First smile I caught on camera!

Photography Challenge Day 21, 22, 23, 24

Day 21 - Faceless Self Portrait

What a comfy robe!

Day 22 - Hand

You can't tell from this picture, but Monkey has some big hands!

Day 23 - Sunflare
It's nice to see the sun again, but there are very few leaves left on the trees.

Day 24 - Animal

Ok, I cheated. This is from apple picking on the weekend, but we don't own any animals.

A vote for catching up???

Weekend wrap-up and weekly goals

I didn't get a lot of things done that I had planned to do. The fun stuff just took over (but really...is that a bad thing?) Here are the Monkey, The Husband and myself at the farm where we went apple picking! Did I mention it was freezing?!
In terms of my fitness goals, I did alright.
Exercise - 3/4 days
Water - I drank lots of water and only had a little pop on the weekends
Eating - doing better at avoiding sweets and aiming for the veggies/fruit!
Weight loss - 0.5lbs. Therefore, I'm at 179.5 lbs. (blah)

This week:
Exercise - 4 days
Nutrition - more water (more bathroom trips), fewer sweets

Apple picking

I realize I'm a little behind on my picture challenge, but I'll update that tomorrow afternoon. As stated on my Weekend Planning post, this weekend was fairly busy. Yesterday we finally headed out apple picking! However, it was freezing! We went with my entire family (minus my parents...who were on their way to warm, sunny Arizona) and had a blast!

Here are some pictures:

Photography Challenge - Day 20

Today's photography challenge is bokeh. Bokeh is defined as the blur or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in an out-of-focus areas of an image. I tried all day to take a picture that would work and then remembered this picture where Monkey's face is pretty much in focus and the background is blurred.
I'll tell you this was the biggest challenge of the entire challenge!

How did you do with the "bokeh challenge"?

Tasty Thursday - Meatloaf

I know there are a lot of meatloaf recipes out there, but if you have never made a meatloaf before this is an excellent "first-timer" recipe. It's really basic!

Ingredients
1/2 cup of milk
12 soda crackers
1 lb of ground beef (lean or extra lean)
1 egg
1/2 onion, chopped
1/4 cup of ketchup
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup of water
1 or 2 tsp of dry mustard (depending on your taste)
Steps:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Combine ground beef, egg, chopped onion, milk and crackers in a bowl
3. Place into a loaf pan.
4. Make "topping" by combining ketchup, water, brown sugar and dry mustard.
5. Cover raw meatloaf with topping.

6. Place in oven for 40 minutes.

We typically serve this with rice and peas but any sides work. The Husband also turns it into a sandwich and he puts all his weird toppings on it.
